My best friend (though we hang out less than we used to) stopped watching wrestling in 2006. He was the guy who got me into it. Back in the day when he lived across the street we would play WWE SYM over his house, then go play HCTP over mine. It was good times.
We'd have debates as to who would win in matches. Debates such as could Brock Lesnar ever make Benoit tap, or would Benoit eventually take the title from him (we talked about this in 2003). It was our childhood friend. We'd have the action figures, the toy belts, everything.
I'll never forget the time I went over his house a few years ago. I asked him what happened on RAW, since I missed it. He told me he forgot to watch it. No big deal. Then he seemed to miss it more often. Week after week, month after month. Then he came over my house one day and asked me this.
Him: You still watch wrestling?
Me: Yeah.
Him: You do?
Me:Yeah, why?
Him: That stuff is ridiculous, I stopped.
I remember this because it was the week Batista turned on Triple H and Ric Flair, and put HHH through the table. Back then he stopped watching, but still played the games. A year later I noticed we even stopped playing the games. Now it seems like we have almost nothing in common. How can I get my friend back into wrestling (particularly WWE)?

get him to watch a decent episode of Raw. If he's still not into it buy him an RoH DVD. if he still doesn't like it then he's probably not going too.

It's hard now that the roster changed dramatically from 2006 to now

You can't.
He has probably grown out of it. It's not that he's just not that much into the "new" product, because he stopped caring in a relatively "stale" time, in terms of trends and such. It's not as if he was an Attitude Era [bandwagon] fan who walked away as soon as the fad was over, or an 80s fan who didn't "get" the Attitude Era.
He just "found out" pro-wrestling is ridiculous, in the middle of the least "challenging" period in years. So I think it's just because he got tired with it as a whole.
How old is he?

sounds like he just grew out of liking wrestling or has decided he's too old and mature for it.
nothing you can do about people like that.
just go on about your business and keep on loving wrestling.
