Reading the topic in the other forum about Austin Aries punching a fan and how the fan may have hit him first, made me wonder about something like that happening in the WWE.
Let's say a big talent like Orton or Batista responded to a fan taunting them and the fan, let's say a very average sized guy, ended up hitting them square in the face, resulting in the wrestler getting KOd cold. Would this kill their cred? I couldn't see any fan, especially a little kid thinking the guy was tough anymore.
I'm definitely not saying someone should ever try it; it's merely a hypothetical situation, since I don't think it's ever happened.

Well, people still like Shawn Michaels....
Besides, anyone can be sucker punched. It's not a big deal compared to losing a fair fight.

In Mid South back in the day, Bill Watts would fire you if you got in a fight outside of wrestling and lost. And Watts would know, like, if you had a black eye, and your hands didn't have much damage on them, you were gone.
Hell, I almost thought JBL was going to be screwed because of the Joey Styles incident. But honestly, if it was seen worldwide, it would be over for them honestly.

JBL is a heel, though, so they could probably of gotten mileage out of it if it was like how it was made out to be in the dirt sheets.

If someone like Joey Styles beats up a guy like JBL.
Yes, I would say they lost all their cred.

I started a thread on this awhile back.
The question was if Ryan Seacrest was intervieing the Undertaker and Seacrest beat him up would it kill the Taker's legend?

if it's a sucker punch, they wouldn't really lose anything imo.
now if they lost a fist fight they were aware of being in....that's a different story.
everybody has a day where they aren't tip top shape though......

In fairness to HBK, getting your ass kicked by even one Marine, IMO, isnt that surprising. I mean, these guys are highly trained in hand to hand combat, so I dont think HBK stood much of a chance.

Depends on the wrestler's character, IMHO. If it was say a Y2J, HBK, MVP or the like no harm no foul. If it were say a monster or super tough guy type a la Kozlov, Big Show, or 'Taker it could REALLY hurt their character. Depending of course on what exactly happened, and how many people saw it/get to see it.

JBL is a heel, though, so they could probably of gotten mileage out of it if it was like how it was made out to be in the dirt sheets. That's irrelevant. Yeah, he's a heel, but he also is a former WWE Champion. Sure, he can cower away from top WWE stars, but he's supposed to be better then the average person. If the average person beat him, why keep him around for him to possibly make your babyfaces look bad eventually.
