I love the story line but shouldn't there be regulations that prevent wrestlers being paid off to keep the competition pure? Isn't this basically what the NBA got crapped all over for with the crooked ref. Lets not forget the 1919 black sox scandal.

Honestly, for everything wrong with this angle, thats pretty far down the list.

I think the Montreal screwjob changed the rules for pro-wrestling forever. After that it was like an open pass for creative to book things like the Fingerpoke of Doom, David Arquette as WCW Champ, or Chyna as the IC Champ. Once Vince saw how much nuclear heat his 'evil' persona got for betraying the 'rules' of pro-wrestling, it was like hitting the goldmine and turned a bad situation (Bret Hart leaving) to a good one (Vince becoming the biggest heel of all time).
I mean, that NH crowd was damn cold for most of the night, but they totally blew the roof while alternating between cheering for HBK's refusal to job to JBL, and booing the tar out of him when he teased a lay-down.
But yeah, the whole idea kinda reeks of outrageous scandal. I know I caught a drink or two being thrown into the ring after JBL won the F4W.

No I know that its just a thought that passed my mind but I'm ready to let it go for the purpose of the wrestling storyline.

The only rule I am aware of is you cannot sell your title, though you are allowed to concede it to someone else.
DiBiase couldn't buy it from Andre, though Booker was allowed to give Kanyon the US title, and Jarrett gave Mark Henry the European title.

Here's what bothers me.
Why couldn't Shawn just walk out and let JBL win by countout, since there were only the 2 of them left?

I REALLY REALLY HATE this angle...It's just hard to buy into the fact that HBK is poor...I know I am supposed to suspend disbelief, which for the most part I do every Monday, but come on this is rediculous. They're wasting a talent like HBK, yeah I know he's on the "Back 9" of his career but still. At least other classic "Bad" storylines gave me some humor, this just makes me mad.

Wasn't it just that he lost his nest egg? That's rather believable to me. As for as paying wrestlers to interfere or throw matches, I have a man you need to see. A Million Dollar Man.

It isn't a bad angle. I liked how they handled it tonight. JBL is the only believable person I could see facing Cena since Jericho already has faced him like two or three times and I'm sure they are saving Randy Orton Vs John Cena for later.
the only thing I don't like about the angle is that there is no way HBK could be bankrupt. The guy has been getting a check for WWE for the last 20 years.(even when he was out for four years he still got paid as teh spokesperson)

Yeah, the point isn't, and never was, that he couldn't pay the bills. The point is that he can take care of his friends and family, but he wants to be able to continue to do that, and know he doesn't have much time left that he can make money in the ring.

Everything about this angle is amazing, it really brings you into it, which is good booking. I almost want to cry for HBK every week, and it's realistic to some many people, because money issues are effecting everyone. Yes, Shawn's been getting a paycheck for the last 20 years, but how many of those years were the wild partyboy Shawn?
