I don't really think so. The only thing he really had going for him was his cool entrance. And you can only milk that for so long. really? sandman got far with his Yeah, but that was ECW... Back OT, I think the mileage on Gangrel's gimmick wasn't much longer or better than they got out of it.

Cant really go too far with a gimmick like that unless your'e The Undertaker. People arent gonna absolutely hate you or absolutely love you with that gimmick. I still think he should have gotten a short European title run or Hardcore title run at least.

He was pretty good, though not great. Awesome entrance, and from what I could tell lived his gimmick.
If nothing else, Alex Shelley credits him for giving him advice that he took to heart on how to prepare for a match.

I absolutely hate being the jerk of this thread, but if I could improve one person's grammar by being a douche then I'll do it.
"Gangrel: Could He HAVE Gone Further?"
Once again, my apologies.
And to answer the actual question, I always thought Gangrel was going to be the main eventer that came out of the Brood. I thought he had a great look and a great working style. He definitely could have gone to at least the IC title level, but for him to have been in the main event would have required him to evolve in the same way Edge and Christian did. I don't think Gangrel could have been a big main eventer as a bite clubber.

Being out of shape is probably what hurt him most.

Being out of shape is probably what hurt him most. This. I remember a shoot interview I read somewhere (before they were all over the internet in video form) from someone (I can't remember) who said that Gangrel was in a match with Road Dogg or somebody, and his shirt blew up and exposed his flabby tummy. The person being interviewed said that he recalls that being the moment that management pulled the plug on any serious notion of pushing him. It's a shame too, because I think he had a lot to offer, even during his most recent tenure when they briefly brought him back with Viscera. I always found it odd that Big Vis got the permanent job and Gangrel got tossed back into the ocean. Pair him with his real life wife Luna, and you could have a pretty solid pair for midcard antics. If anything, it would injected some color/personality into the relatively bland/straightforward midcard.

I thought I remember him saying in a shoot interview a while back that he didn't have a lot of confidence in himself and that Vince could see that so he never felt comfortable giving him a decent push....

He at least deserved a tag title reign with Edge as part of The Brood. If Godfather could get an IC title reign, I don't see why Gangrel couldn't have. The Brood were pretty over during their run.

I enjoyed Gangrel. I don't think he was that bad in the ring either, but I guess he got out of shape somewhat and was de-pushed.
And that entrance was ridiculously badass.

I don't think so. He would have had to be repackaged at one point and that would have alienated what fans he had.

I think the difference is that Viscera was big enough for the size to be intimidating, like many of the girth guys before him. Gangrel just looked out of shape. A four-hundred pound + man rushing at you is more intimidating than a normal out of shape guy.

I wonder if there wasn't a copyright problem somewhere. Does White Wolf ring a bell for any of you?

He had a cool gimmick and ring style at the time. The whole high flying work style was on fire at the time, and he did some pretty sick looking moves. A problem though, I think, was that WWE was kind of overflowing with those kind of characters at the time-The Ministry, Taker, Kane. Once The Brood broke up, he could have used a bit of repackaging. Some new attire and new music might have helped him a bit. Also, he needed a good feud. He could have had a long term thing going with Edge at the time, I'm surprised they did not milk that more.

There was a lawsuit. I believe that White Wolf won, but allowed the continuation of the name because it upped the recognition of their product.

Never understood why WWE gave him a name that was already copyrighted by someone else. Very un WWE like to do that.

Never really saw him as any type of title holder IMO, unless he would have been around for the Hardcore title.
