I mean, he could get heat just by walking the ramp. Good on the mic and not bad in the ring. Just a shame about the timing of one of his promo's.
Then Vince did the honourable thing and sacked him claiming it was all his own (Hassans) idea. Yeah as if creative would let a wrestler control his own gimmick.
Hope he comes back one day, but I would understand if he never worked for Vinnie Mac ever again.

The guy was a great worker. Vince had to let him go, Understandible, but did he have to go public burying the guy?

I'm pretty sure they didn't just let him go. I could have sworn that after they scrapped the gimmick he asked for his release to try and become an actor, as opposed to being repackaged. Plus, all the interviews I've heard suggested he didn't really have that much passion for the business and might not have been long for it anyways. I remember hearing a Lance Storm shoot about how he was by far the laziest guy he worked with in developmental.
As for him as a performer, I wasn't really into him. I thought that while he was a good talker, his promos were rambling and repetitive, while his matches bored me. He did get great heat though, so he was doing his job and I'll give him credit where it's due. I understand he had a lot of talent, he just wasn't someone I was that into personally.

They said there was some trouble with his song and UPN. I don't know the story or whether or not if that's true.
The guy was talented, and made a good character.

Not even close...
It's no secret Copani [the man who played Hassan] was just using WWE as a launching-pad for his acting career, rather than being out there out of sheer passion. So I don't think WWE have registered a huge loss by letting him go.
According to wiki (for what it's worth) it was Copani who asked for the release and has never been seen in a ring again... Unlike many others who were "mistreated" by the E.
And about the Hassan gimmick, I've already explained my opinion several times.
A well-thought, multi-layered character would have been too complicated, and ultimately pointless, in wrestling. It's not psychological theater, it's not writing class 301... Pro wrestling needs black-and-white characters people can identify/recognize in a matter of seconds.
Oh, and any idiot could get tremendous heat by insulting the audience and calling them racists and bigots while wearing a keffiyeh and going to the ring with middle-eastern music.

People hated him because of the gimmick he was playing.
And at the time he was playing it, 9/11 was not far removed and the war in the Middle East was at it's peak.
That's why people were pissed off about the guy and he got so much heat.

Yeah I don't think he was the best anything of modern times. Daivari on his own got the same kind of reactions. Almost anyone dressed as an "evil foreigner" has gotten similar reactions. It's a reaction to the gimmick, not the performer. And his matches weren't great and didn't really get the crowd to do much.

Santino's gimmick requires comedic timing, but yeah, a lot of people could do what he's doing right now and he's lucky he's the one who was chosen to do this cause he wouldn't have gotten over with his wrestling.

Hassan was basically the modern version of Turncoat Slaughter. Or of General Adnan and Colonel Mustafa... that's more accurate... YOU could walk to a WWE ring tomorrow, with zero training and zero namepower, and get more or less the EXACT SAME reaction Hassan/Daivari got. Just by saying and doing what they did.

He was just aight.
He definitely couldn't touch newly-unmasked Kane, IMO. Or Vinny Mac, for that matter.
