ya know, just because you make a phenomenal movie about a washed up wrestler still trying to make a living....that doesn't give you the right to suddenly know everything there is to know about wrestling and begin to dictate it's existence.
I was happy about Darren making the movie......now it seems he is overstepping his bounds and overestimating his importance.

We will have to respectfully disagree on this.

I was happy about Darren making the movie......now it seems he is overstepping his bounds and overestimating his importance. I wouldn't say that at all really. He's being asked his opinion and giving it. I don't think he is demanding people take his views and put them on their websites or TV programmes. Darren seems an intelligent guy that has researched his subject matter, he is now giving his opinion on said subject matter. Hardly reason to lynch him. I agree with everything he states, it's about time these guys and girls risking injury every time are given some official recognised protection. That list of wrestlers gone before they should have is far too long already...

You know, he does sort of have a point since they ARE actors and all.

Is the porn film industry covered by SAG?
Just wondering.

Vince McMahon says Mister Aronofsky can join a certain club... Well, if that's the case then I guess I know where Aronofsky's Golden Lion will be stored...

I mentioned the same thing during the post about WWE guys being called performers, but you don't see me in the news!

Is the porn film industry covered by SAG? Just wondering. Good point. If they're not, wrestling probably shouldn't be, either, since that's a clearer similarity. SAG would be the one to bother about this, Vince less so.

This is the most ingnorant thing I've ever heard. Hasn't wrestling fought it's entire existence agiainst this STUPID misconception?

ya know, just because you make a phenomenal movie about a washed up wrestler still trying to make a living....that doesn't give you the right to suddenly know everything there is to know about wrestling and begin to dictate it's existence. I was happy about Darren making the movie......now it seems he is overstepping his bounds and overestimating his importance. I think there's a small bit of difference between dictating its existence and saying how he feels. I was watching a video with Luna, and she mentioned the same thing. Also, a lot of insurance companies won't insure you if you are a professional wrestler. I definitely feel they should be part of the screen actors guild. Here's the deal with pro wrestling. It's been so over exposed that for the majority, most people know it's rigged. Back in the day, they were made out to be prize fighters more then anything, and being part of the Screen Actors Guild would expose the buisness. Vince is in an awkward position when it comes to naming them. He doesn't want to name them wrestlers so the athletic commisions don't get after him, then he'll name them entertainers, and then it's asked why they aren't in the SAG. Pro Wrestling is an extremely tough business to unionize, there are a lot of negatives and positives. The negatives being, how does one dictate a payscale for guys wrestling at a local indy show? How does one dictate the pay of a guy who may have less experience then another wrestler, but is over then another wrestler? Back in the day, the greener guys weren't pushed as hard in the beginning, despite the potential money that could be made off them. How would pushes come about in a company? You can't push a guy based on it being their turn, it's based on how well they do and how the fans react to them. The two glaring positives are simple though. Heathcare being number 1 and training being number 2. The boys will be able to have something to fall back on at the end of their career or if something really bad was to happen, and the union will likely have certain guys to train people properly, as opposed to a great number of schools out there, that as a union person myself, I consider extremely scabby. I'm not sure exactly how the Screen Actor's Guild works, though my good buddy wikipedia might teach me about it in a few minutes.

What about strikes? If actors go on strike then no wrestling. I dont like that.

What about strikes? If actors go on strike then no wrestling. I dont like that. Neither would the wrestlers, given how they get payed. It's also a LOT easier to lose your spot in wrestling, so the top guys wouldn't be apt to join a guild, and the lower guys wouldn't have the sway to not just get fired.

This is the most ingnorant thing I've ever heard. Hasn't wrestling fought it's entire existence agiainst this STUPID misconception? But wrestlers ARE stuntmen of a higher calibur. Have you ever watched an amazing fight sequence in a movie? Chances are you have. Do you mean to tell me that those two (or more) stunt fighters are somehow different than pro wrestlers in a sense of having to have perfect timing, work well together, and know how to make things look real without actually damaging one another? Pro wrestling merely ups the ante by performing live and having to get everything right in one take. Other than that, it's exactly the same. Stuntmen get injured all the time just like pro-wrestlers. I think in trying to say wrestlers are insulted by being called stuntmen is disrespectful to all the training and hard work Hollywood stuntmen have put in to get to where they are. Real stuntmen are not people like that idiot Steve-O. Stuntmen are people who put in so much disciplined effort to pull off amazing spectacles to wow audiences. Sound familiar?
