I mean despite having the largest actual attendance I believe of any Wrestlemania (even surpassing WM III's actual attendance, but not their reported one), the card just seemed overall really weak. Where would you rank it amongst the Wrestlemanias?

Pretty high really, the match quality was pretty high and well I liked most of the matches.
Money in the Bank, Taker/Batista, Cena/HBK, Lashley/Umaga, were pretty darn good.
JBL's commentary was also awesome

Not a bad card at all really, I personally stopped caring after Batista/Taker as to me that was MOTN and the crowd seemed more pumped for that than Cena/HBK.

I hope we don't get any more ridiculous entrances from Cena...that in and of itself really made me, at least, lose interest in it. I know that may sound stupid, but it was the entrance equivalent of nuking the fridge that just really threw me off. I suppose it's not as bad as the time he came from the spaceship, but who knows, he may try something even more over the top next time.

Especially because there are no real (or very few at best) Wrestlemania moments. Cena and Michaels went on to overshadow their match shortly after, with another one on Raw, the Batista/Undertaker feud continued, and Benoit/MVP had a series of bettter matches. It was really telling, when they had the crosscutting of WM III and WM XXIII moments at the end, when they showed Hulk Hogan slamming Andrea followed by Kane slamming Khali. If anyone thinks Kane slamming Khali can stand up to perhaps the most well known moment in wrestling history, then sir, I'll eat my hat.

Singles match for the WWF Intercontinental Championship and WWF Championship 22:51 Again, not saying its the worst, or even that I think it ranks close to the worst, but in terms of what it could have been and what it delivered, it just felt like a disappointment. Even with Wrestlemania VI you had Ultimate Warrior vs. Hulk Hogan, which ranks above any WM XXIII moment IMHO. Also WM cards of old were set up differently in a way that at least in some ways to me was more appealing as it showcased all the major players of the roster. While this meant shorter matches, time was allotted for the more main event caliber stuff. Although admittedly this would not work today, as even the short WM matches of old, were typically against two name wrestlers (even if it was a name like Koko B. Ware) during a time when name wrestlers mostly wrestled jobbers during the rest of the year.

The Money in the Bank featured alot of great wrestlers but i think Flair and Carlito should have been there instead of Randy and Edge (who should have fought each other on the card). MVP vs Benoit was match of the night with Batista vs Undertaker behind.

I thought 23 was a pretty good card, myself. Not one of the best, but far from the worst.

I agree with putting Randy vs. Edge on the card instead of in the MITB, but I probably would have left Flair and Carlito out of it as well. Eight people seems like too much in that match, whereas six is more appropriate.

I'm sorry there's no way Benoit/MVP was better, though MVP's entrance was more awesome than Batista's that's about all that was better.

Taker vs Batista was obviously a bigger deal but you have Benoit, one of the greatest in the business against a Cocky, Brash up and comer who never done crap to get the treatment he was getting before hand face him in one of the best Wrestlemania matches ever. Did you honestly expect MVP to break out a match like that at the time? No one did. The overall wrestling was better IMO.

I really ended up enjoying Wrestlemania 23. There was a ton of good on the card. Shawn/Cena was the best of the night for me, with Benoit/MVP and MITB behind that. Batista/Taker was solid, Lashley/Umaga was the shenanigans match and it was good for what it was. Not the best Mania, but I got a ton of enjoyment out of it.

I think WM 23 is one of those shows that people will appreciate more as it ages. It might be the best 'Mania but it was a solid, enjoyable show.

I feel like in this day in age it's very hard to go on last at mania because there is already so much that has gone on before it! If you go back and pop in the dvd and just watch michales and cena it's a good match, after the whole card though I agree it's a little weak.
I personally loved Batista/ Taker because at the titme that was arguably when the Batista hate for me was at it's highest I used to love watching a tista ppv match so I can root hard agianst batista and it did not dissapoint!

22 looked much weaker on paper and didn't turn out as strong as 23 did.
The entire PPV is basically made by Mickie/Trish and Edge/Foley. Little else really did much for me.
