Thats one of the few things I found disappointing, but I do hope it makes its way into the DVD.
And while the subject is up...Jackie Earle Haley f***ing RULED it as Rorshach. Just god damn owned his role.

Speaking of the DVD....it might be my first ever Blu Ray purchase. I wonder what the menus are gonna look like?
Also....yeah. I am saying it right now: Jackie Earle Haley for Best Supporting Actor.

I don't know what it is. Haley just knows how to play a mentally disturbed individual (I'm referring to his last nomination for Best Supporting Actor).
Among other things I liked; - Opening sequence. Utterly incredible piece of work. - Silhouette being the V-Day kisser. But thats for personal reasons... - I personally liked the violence. No, Rorshach doesn't need to know kung-fu, but eh, it didn't bother me. One picks up a few tricks while fighting crime, savvy? - Matthew Goode isn't getting enough credit for his portrayal of Ozymandias. In fact, if Haley wasn't around to kick ass, Goode may very well have been my favorite part of the film. - I liked that they made the ending change make sense, in the very end. I did have a problem with it being changed (kidnapping the scientists and writers and likewise is what REALLY set the whole plot in motion, y'know? The Comedian discovers the uncharted island, and...ahhh, I won't get into it here) but they at least didn't half ass an explanation with the change.
I can't say enough about this movie.

Glad you liked it. And did you happen to notice Hooded Justice's Russian accent? There's another nod to the novel, right there. The guy with the Noose? He sounded Irish to me

He sounded Irish to me Yeah, it sounded vaguely British/Irish to me too. Anyhow, I never like going into long reviews, but I like the movie. It's nestled between Dark Knight and Iron Man for my favorite hero movies now. I was not angry at the ending, it makes sense. There were some odd moments in it, some awkward acting, but they make me want to see Snyder's full version now. For a movie that many said was unfilmable, Snyder pulled it off very well. Also, the opening was amazing. Also, I would love to nail Silk Spectre. Growwwwl.

So, I saw the movie last night, and damn was I far from disappointed. There were some things I liked better in the movie than in the comic, to be perfectly honest with you. SPOILERS (come on now, if you haven't read the book, or watched the film, why are you here?) Such as Nite Owl's reaction to Ozymandias' plot, and to Manhattan blowing up Rorshach. Seriously, Dreiberg beating the excretory matter out of Ozy, and Ozy not fighting back because he knew he deserved it...THAT meant a whole lot more to me than the characters folding like napkins in Ozy's company. Long story short, great film. I loved it. Agreed. I also wonder if Rorschach's discovery of the mask material will make the director's cut? I get the feeling that a lot of stuff like that will make it back in, as will Hollis' death and the bar scene at the beginning at the book. Also, I loved the scene with Ozy at the end. "What is this, John? Another ultimate weapon?!" "...Something like that." *turns on TV's of Nixon announcing the peace treaty* And I love Jackie, I thought his performance was amazing, but was anyone else thinking that Michael Emerson, Ben Linus on Lost, could have done a good job as Rorschach too, or was I the only one?

Just got back.
I loved the movie. I do think it's going to bomb badly though.

I'm hoping that too but damn if the audience didn't look pissed walking out of that theater.

HA! Mine...mine just filed out silently, except for the kids who were jabbering about seeing "that blue man's pee-pee!".
Silent....silent crowds leaving are never a good thing. Better that than laughing outright at it, though. They could just be stunned by the awesomeness they just beheld, right?

Just got back. I loved the movie. I do think it's going to bomb badly though. With this movie, it feels like box office won't matter. What matters is that it got made. It's hard to point to any other comic book story that people have wanted to be made any more than this (with the exception of the similarly themed Dark Knight Returns). It has been said it was unfilmable, considering the depth and length of the book. And it was made. It was hard, it was expensive, but it happened. It's the one story I personally have wanted to see done, and it has been done. Only other comic I want to see someone take a crack at is Preacher...and that is going to be tough to do. Watchmen is a dark, R-rated deconstruction of the hero and the human element that doesn't have an established fanbase like something like Batman and Iron Man had. It's going to be a tough sell no matter what, but Zack did it with 300, and I have faith he can do it here too.

I'd like to see Preacher done as a HBO mini-series or something similar

I think I'd rather have it as a mini series, but I said the same thing about Watchmen too, way back in it's infant stages.

Zack is finding the balance of style and substance, but his style still seems to take precedence. Preacher isn't style. It's all the story, it's about the people, and the snorked up things they collide with. I honestly don't even know if anyone could find what it takes to be Jesse Custer, and make it exactly how I imagine him and Tulip and Cassidy to be. And I don't know if there's anyone out there who can direct such a story either. Best name I can pull out of my hat? Andrew Dominik, the man who directed Chopper and The Assasination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. Maybe Guy Ritchie, now that he's found his balls again. But I don't see him wanting to break away from the London underbelly. I do wish the Preacher series on HBO had come to fruition. No way could it just be a 2+ hour movie. The whole story needs to be told.

I must add that I actually liked the slo-mo stuff. In some instances it helped to capture a panel from the book for a brief moment and thats what you need with a direct adaptation like this.

I'm glad he decided to keep the fight scenes at normal speed for most of the time though. That first one is absolutely damn brutal and intense, and slowing it down would have hurt it badly. I don't really think it's too overdone in it.
Loved the shot of the news vendor and his customer getting killed as well, so many great little nods to the book like that.
And yeah, the ending bit with Rorschach and Jon. I knew it was going to be tough to watch, but it was perfectly done. I was fighting it back.

Yeah apparently they shot ins and outs of the News Vendor and the black kid for the Black Freighter dvd.
