Okay, I just got back from seeing this film, and I have to say that overall I liked it. I read the subject material 20 years ago or so, and even though it's been that long ago it's stuck with me. There are a couple of changes that I didn't like, but for me it was an enjoyable experience.
It will be more so when I go with friends later in the week to an IMAX theatre ... of course as far as they know I've never seen it, so shhhhh ... it's a secret.
I understand that many people don't like the film, and that's fine for you. After all, as human beings we can formulate our own opinions. But I liked the hell out of it, as did the people that were there with me, including the juvenile acting bastards sitting behind me who couldn't keep their mouths shut. After the upteenth time they snickered when they saw blue penis, I turned and said in a low voice, "C'mon guys, it's a penis. I'm sure you know what one looks like with as much as you probably play with yours." You can say such things when you're twice their size, sporting a mohawk and black painted nails.

Except we never once get the feeling that Doc Man is watching over them, or that he did it to tell them to cool his heels. If I was a country in power I would think "oh crap, the United States super weapon just went rogue, we are all screwed, lets blow up the USA so they make no more of these things". On the plus side, with the Mist, King was all for the filming, and he said the new ending was better than his own. Except, you know, the USA got hit by Doc as well. That means that Doc was mad at EVERYONE. And who is to say the Russia couldn't accidentally create their own Doc?

Dude, we would all be screwed. I would imagine we'd end up at marshal law really freaking fast with either scenario.

Don't worry guys, I'll stop Dr. Manhattan. Unlike him, I know I'm a comic book character.

Don't worry guys, I'll stop Dr. Manhattan. Unlike him, I know I'm a comic book character. And unlike Rorschach and dozens of mobsters and Vietnamese soldiers, you can't die! Doc would keep blowing you up, but thanks to you flirting around with Death and thus pissing Thanos off, you will just keep on coming back.

Oh and a couple left during the dogs scene with Rorshach. I must be desensitized to this stuff.

In the end, Doc would get his gang, The BLue Man Group to play your intestines under black lights.

Is it wrong that I loved the music that played over the credits? I know it's someone like My Chemical Romance, but that song kicked ass.

After the last album, there is no shame in liking MCR. And Koda, no it wouldn't be the Blue Dong group, he was entirely blue, not just his phallus. Admittedly the Blue Ball group would be hilarious.

All right, I've heard that there is something after the credits.
Please someone tell me (sincerely) that I did not exit in vain?

What was everybody's 3 favorite and least favorite parts of the film?
Favorite:
1. The Music. I just loved the use of all those classic songs in such an unconventional way. Gave the movie a feel like no other.
2. Jackie Earle Haley. The guy was amazing. Especially during all the prison scenes. His acting during his final scene in particular was amazing.
3. The opening credits. They had me in tears. Just absolutely beautiful.
Least Favorite:
1. Didn't really like how they went about revealing Comedian was Laurie's father.
2. The stuff they cut. (Bernies, Mason's Death, Rorschach's first visit to Happy Harry's, Will probably be solved in the Director's Cut though)
3. The pointless fight scene with Dan and Laurie at the beginning of the prison riot.

I stayed after the credits both times I went on Friday, nothing to miss. Except two really good songs that play over them ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

I thought it was subpar based on both my expectations and based on other movies I do think are great character pieces. I think he brought in as much of Gibbons work into the movie as anyone possibly could and pretty much crapped on Moore's depth of story in favor of simple plot and characters and flashy scenes. Which works for him and will probably make it accessable.
I just didn't like it. You did and that's fine. The real injustice I think is all the people thinking the revisions were necessary or even better. Steven King often weighs in on his adaptations. Melville, Stoker, and Tolkien never saw there stuff on the big screen. Alan Moore worked with Hollywood writers to get Watchmen adapted, and even before he finally just got sick and tired of Hollywood with the V stuff and LOEE, he came to believe Watchmen unfilmable. He knew there was too much in there that wouldn't translate well. Most of that stuff was cut by Snyder. I don't think that makes him a cinematic genius, I just think that makes the Watchmen movie lacking.
I don't believe having high expectations makes me jaded. In fact I think believing that making Watchmen was inevitable and that it would have to be Hollywooded up, so yay at least we got Snyder instead of Ratner or Micheal Bay is really jaded. I do not by that this was inevitable. Especially how it almost didn't make it countless times. Also simply because disaster was averted does not mean success was achieved.
Snyder has said he wanted to remain true to the book. However the ending is different. Which I am not even that hung up on. What it was changed to though, I am. Watchmen was supposed to put forth multiple worldviews and leave good and bad up to the person experiencing it. Instead Manhattan has become the stand in for God in the deus ex machina, which is easy because they cut out his ties to humanity the book was good at showing, save for the outburst over Janey. Nobody cared about the love triangle he was involved in. Rorschach has become the ultra-cool Batman/Wolverine bad man doing good in a messed up world and Ozymandias has become a supervillain. In the book everyone except Rorschach accept what he has done as necessary. Not to mention the utter neglect of the character of the shrink and his family and how there death made the tragedy of what did happen have a human face. Or Bubastis. Or Hollis Mason's fate.
Maybe that stuff did need to be cut to make the movie the way they needed it to be made, but cutting that also made it unfaithfull to the book. Those things served a purpose in the story Moore told. I can accept that that's not the story Snyder was trying to tell. Indeed Moore put forth multiple world views which probably would be unfilmable save maybe in parts or a miniseries. My main gripe I guess is that attitude of good enough means great and the rest of us should accept that and that using panels as storyboards while changing the characters personalities and motivations is faithfull.
