While the movie didn't feel epic to me, I did enjoy it a lot. However, I do think they could have cut out some of the 3000 scenes of the fake Nixon to show some of the human characters reactions to doomsday. It almost seemed like Snyder was going "we got him in the makeup, we're going to use him damn it!"
I'll pick up the dvd that's for sure.

I get that too. That's why i don't think most people would have cared about the embrace between the news stand guy, and comic kid. If you read the book, it means alot. I think I'm going to wait till the director's cut comes out to rewatch it. Same here, when the Directors cut comes out and I watch it I'll probably end up giving it a 9. What if the directors cut is just more blue dong?!? ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Hmmm... After reading the comic again on my flight to Georgia and going to see the movie again I have a few more thoughts... Originally I liked Dan going to see Veidt rather than Rorshach, but now it kinda annoys me because in the comic Dan doesn't believe the masked killer story until later in the story. Along with Hollis Mason's death, the scene I want in the directors cut the most is Silk Specter II and the Comedian at the party. It shows how she hates Eddie Blake, which makes her shock of learnign he's her father more powerful.

The biggest thing missing, i think, was context. By virtually removing all of the "normal" people, the police, Hollis, the news stand guy and the kid, the psychiatrist and family, you lose the sense of impending doom that made the nuclear threat seem real. All so I feel they made Ozy far to cold in the movie, I miss his little celebration when he realizes the plan worked. I get that too. That's why i don't think most people would have cared about the embrace between the news stand guy, and comic kid. If you read the book, it means alot. I think I'm going to wait till the director's cut comes out to rewatch it. Is all that for sure going to be in the directors cut? because that would really kick ass.

I mean f***, they got nearly everything else in the theatrical release. They just didn't have the "normal" people parts.

That's great. For me it was the only part I thought was lacking. Cool to hear that it should be on the dvd. It will make it a whole new movie.

So if people have a varying opinion they are snobs? Dude, get over it. Seriously just because we don't agree doesn't mean we are snobs it means "gasp* we didn't see it the way you did.
I am glad you enjoyed it, and it was everything you hoped it could be or whatever. I didn't, it doesn't make ritt or I a snob, it means we have different tastes/expected more.
I do not at all believe that this is the best we could have gotten, because most everything can always be done better.

I went to see it on Saturday and I'll be honest, I borrowed the book last year thought the book was just ok (But I was confused for half of it lol) and I didn't expect to enjoy the movie that much
But I really, really enjoyed it a lot.......Time flew by
I'll probably re-read the novel because the movie sorted out a couple of things I was confused by
Edit - I just bought it lol

After watching the movie last night, I'll have to pick up my old copy. I bought it back in 1988 or so and it's the first Graphic Novel I ever purchased.

This thread has been a rare case of people debating a topic and doing so intelligently. I see no snobbery. Outside of being called snobs, I agree Kash. That was really uncalled for. Just a thought that no matter if they had absolutely frame by frame recreated this movie, people would still hate it because the shade of Manhattan wasn't blue enough. I doubt there was any way they could have included Hollis, the psychiatrist, the newstand, and scores of other less important sideplots without making the movie four and a half hours long. Sure some diehards would be pleased, but no one else would, and I doubt a studio would have picked it up. So when I say snobbery, I mean that so what if it wasn't the exact shade of blue, you were just treated to a phenomenol epic that was pretty damn close to the spirit of the book. This wasn't FF2 or X-Men 3. Of course we will disagree and get offended over such things, it is the nature of the internet. Also, nothing will ever get resolved, so knowing I will never convice you otherwise, we agree to disagree, and I hope the directors cut has the right shade of blue.

Actually I am ok with changes and cuts, and different shades of blue, if they make sense. So much of this movie didn't make sense to me. And truly the one thing that I didn't like about it, above all else is that while watching it, I was bored.
They can change a ton of things as long as core is still there(and in my mind I thought it was mostly there, until I sit back and think more about it, and now I believe only Night Owl and the Comedian were really in character). I just want to be engaged. I am a huge SPider-man fan, and they chnaged a bunch of stuff in the movie that tweaked me. But at the end of the day I watched it and went "holy poop! Spider-man is on the screen!" and I had fun.
With Watchmen I went "uh, ok, visual facsimiles of characters I know are on screen, doing uh, stuff.. yay...zzzzzzz".
So I reiterate, Dr. Man was a fine shade of blue, in fact I thought his design was a high part of the film, but when I watch the movie and think about leaving, it isn't a good sign. I made it through "Freddy Got Finger" for crying out loud(I hate my friends), but I almost didn't make 45 minutes of Watchmen.

There was one thing that confused me. When they were going through the beginning, showing all the events that somewhat did happen, they showed the JFK assassination and showed the 2nd gunman. Was the 2nd gunman Blake? Because it sure as hell looked like him.
