I have a question about the stickied filter dodging announcement. It's just out of curiosity and not to be critical. I was just wondering how the appropriate method for self-filtering was determined, and why, for example, it's ok to type the first letter, but not, say the first and last letter. It occured to me that it could be for some proboards related reason, but if that were the case, then DiG wouldn't have been able to give the specific examples (though how fortunate he was able to, how confusing would that have been!).
Sorry in advance if this is one of those questions that's been asked a million times and I'm being that one guy who doesn't realize it.

1) If everyone filters the exact same way then there's no chance for people to think that typing the word using alternate characters would be okay (i.e. @$$ even though that's not filtered anyway)
2) It sort of serves as a red flag to show us who actually bothered reading the rules or in this case an announcement we've made.
As for how it came to be that way. F*** (see how it should be?) if I know. It was like that when I became a mod

using the asteriks is the least complicated way of keeping it consistent, simple as that.

On the subject of filter dodging, what about made up curses, like "frak" from Battlestar Galactica? Where would those kind of things fall into this subject?

While we're at it, what about similar-sounding replacements like "shoot" to replace you-know-what-word? I mean, if it appears in PG fictions, it's got to be OK for the boards, right?

Oh, another question I've been willing to ask for quite a while. Is there any possibility for you to raise the number of characters we can use for the thread titles? It's sometimes tough to find a compelling short title and as a result, I often end up short on space and I must find another idea, which leads me to create titles that don't depict the topic of the thread all that well. I don't think i'm the only one in that situation considering the number of generic threads like "Is it just me?", "Oh my God" or "This is just weird/sad/awesome/etc."
So, can you guys do it or is it a Proboard limitation?

To my knowledge, it's a ProBoards limitation. I have seen one fix/hack for this issue, but for those that don't run scripts it completely wrecks the board listing.

I am guilty of doing this, mainly because I think it's perfectly acceptable. Just don't use said words towards other people of course.

Odd question, does thread deletion change your post count?

Odd question, does thread deletion change your post count? Nope. Only way that gets screwed with is if we as staff decide to band together and conspire against you. Or if we get bored or annoyed that someone is bragging about their post count.

Has anyone ever considered a board where anything goes? Talk of politics, or whatever else might annoy some people? I just think that we should have ONE board where barring illegal things, anything should go. People who don't want to hear unfiltered opinions or discussions there can just stay out. I mean, if you KNEW what you were going into BEFORE you went in, I don't see any problems. It's worked well at other places I visit. Only downside is that the topics would vary widely and get lost in the shuffle, but that's nothing a good bump can't handle.

It's been brought up multiple times, and each time it's been met with a resounding "No". When you see how difficult it is for some people to discuss professional wrestling with any ounce of maturity, just imagine how bad it could get when discussing politics/religion. It's never gonna happen. (My apologies to the Mods for answering for them, but I figured I'd save you the trouble)

As far as searching the forums goes you're most likely better off using the Googlesearch on the bottom of the page than using the forums' built-in search function. I don't know why, but it's largely crappy. We used to be able to improve on it by using the Fix Forum thing and frequent archiving, but we can't do the former anymore, unfortunately. I think it reordered some things behind-the-scenes that we have no control over anymore after that upgrade.

How does the process of changing your user name work? Do you have to create a new account?

I think so. You can change your display name but not your username without deleting it.
