Did anyone notice at Backlash the crowd went dead during Shelton Benjamin's entrence??
If anybody recorded Backlash go listen to it, it made me laugh when I noticed.
So why do you think this is?? My guess is because Shelton isn't all razzle dazzle high spot monkey & the crowds are too dumb to appreciate it.
What does everybody else think??

The crowd stayed dead for about the first three-four minutes of the match too. There was some massively dead air. Everyone I watched it with commented on it while it was happening. It was THAT noticeable. When they started doing some outstanding moves, there was some crowd noise, but I was just baffled by how NOT into that match they were.

Give him time. He'll be a star one day once he connects with the crowd. He'll win everyone over with his in-ring skills, it'll just take time. His match w/ HBK was a huge step in the right direction

His match w/ HBK was a huge step in the right direction You aint just whistlin' Dixie! I thought very little to nothing about Benjamin (apathy is worse than hate) before Monday, and now I at least am digging him some. That match was great. It really was. I was proud for Shawn and pleased as punch that Benjamin made me squirm a little. If he can keep that up and by God learn to talk one day, he might do something... but almost as good as that match was was how bad his segment with Jericho in the back was. Y2J looked stoned and Benjamin was floundering... one of the worst segments ever... up there with the Hardyz "No Terri, it's too dangerous!" promo.

Can you blame the humanoids for wanting to be a part of the action? Of course you can but they've got nothing else in their lives Shac, let them have there .015 second of fame. Must you be so cold? Where is your manatee? That's why I enjoy Japanese crowds more. And Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are obviously a couple....

I agree that Shelton is a bit lacking in the personality/charisma department. He's not lacking a lot, but he's definitely well below guys like Jericho or Christian in that department. Perhaps WWE should give him a bit of a new twist to his on screen persona? Nothing Wrestlecrappy mind you, I'm not saying he should dress in drag or anything. I just think it could help if they add a new dimension to his character, kind of like what they have recently done with Viscera.

And Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are obviously a couple.... ...especially if you've read "Formerly Known as the Justice League." But I love an apey crowd. Don't really dig the Japanese crowds, though they can be an entertaining change of pace (like the orgasming "TERRRYYYYY!!" Japanese women who mark for The Funkster). But I'll take a clapping, screaming, apey ECW crowd anyday. I was front-row right there in the ECW crowd and pleased as punch.

They only really pick up the sound at ringside, anyway. The seats in the wing and the section where I was sitting were rabid for Y2J.

While I agree that a hot crowd can really make a match in some ways, I think you also have to realize that you can never really count on one. Personally, I like it when the crowd sits and watches the match, applauding when they feel like it, maybe starting a chant now and then, but then goes nuts when A) a big finish happens, B) for a "spotfest" match, or C) for the main event/title matches. Get the best of both worlds that way, and less of morons just coming to shows to put themselves over and taking away from a match.

It just doesn't happen on WWE Raw is all.

Well I'm sure half the crowd didn't know whether to cheer him or boo him since he did start acting pretty arrogant and the crowd will always love Jericho.
I wouldn't blame the dead crowd on Shelton, just the way he's been booked.
Also when he got squashed by HHH a few months back his pops were definitely smaller.

Shelton just needs a bit of an edge. If he had a real heel run, maybe people could have gotten behind him more. Correct my if I'm wrong, but didn't he just kinda turn face for no reason after being drafted? Plus, the injury hurt him a bit. I think the war of words with Jericho was a step in the right direction. Maybe if he complimented his (awesome) wrestling talent with, say, a wikid chair shot every now and then, or some trash talk. sheltons "hungry young face " gimick work's just great right now...hes moveset just isnt a heel moveset... what hes need's is, a solid mid card heel too work a program w/ so he can, be a solid face so the arena mark's know they shoud pop for him... y2j may or may not turn heel who know's...sounds like christian is headed too sd...both those guy's coud have helped shelton's career alot... its woud be cool if shelton worked a program w/flair but, i dont know if hunter woud like that...if flair is sticking around too help get new talent over, shelton is exactly the kind of guy, hes shoud be putting over...

The lack of charisma isn't the only thing holding Shelton back. Remember when he returned from his injury, then went on to win the IC title? What happened to him in the few months that followed? Practically nothing. He was defending the title against Maven and Simon Dean in squash matches. It's not that people don't care about him, it's just that he hasn't been given much of a chance for people to care. During his run, he's been given very little mic/face time, which is ludicrous considering he holds the second-most important title on Raw. Some people know what he can do in the ring, but because of the way he's been held back, people will watch him come down the ramp and think "Here comes another crappy Maven match". Plus, his T-Bone powerslam isn't that great of a finisher.

As I said in another Shelton-related thread, I'm hoping the upcoming draft will bring in a good mid-card heel for Benjamin to fued with (or a good mid-card face, if they went with the turn.) I don't/can't watch Smackdown so I couldn't give a suggesiton of who that oppenent could be, but a good old fashioned IC fued is just what the belt (and Shelty) need.
