That man can cut a promo. He had me eating out of the palm of his hand. The best part about it was that everything he said was true. Made the promo even more awesome.
IMHO this legend interaction with Jericho is def. leading to a Jericho Austin match at Mania. It's got money written all over it

What I enjoy is that both sides make completely valid arguments, and then Jericho, realizing the truth, has a moment where he goes OH CRAPOLA and then beats up old people.
It's like the angle of my dreams, but with less beating up old people.

I was confused.
For a second I though Ultimo Dragon was making his return. Then I thought Eric Bishoff was making his return.
Then I realized that is was Steamboat.

There's a reason why Steamboat is one of my favorite wrestlers as a kid. That proved why tonight.

You could tell he really didn't want to say that winning the Intercontinantal championship was a greater career highlight than his world title victory. That little pause he had there seemed to go on forever.

wow.... Steamboat's still got it. I approve highly! I was expecting him to put on the headband and say "Jericho? do you want to see what I got in my bag?" and busts out a giant Alligator.

Couldn't Rick just set him on fire with his breath?
(Yet another classic WWF reference right there, my bad!)

I was hoping Jericho would go old school and hit Steamboat in the throat with the ring bell. Then you have an angle around whether or not Steamboat can learn to talk again before his HoF speech.

IMHO this legend interaction with Jericho is def. leading to a Jericho Austin match at Mania. It's got money written all over it I don't mean this as an offense, but where on Earth do people keep getting this from? I'll be the first to eat crow if it's true, but on what evidence are we to accept the possibility that Austin would come out of retirement for even one match and risk paralysis? He's repeatedly mentioned, or at least confidantes have, that he's one bump away from being confined to a wheelchair. So why exactly is everyone so convinced he's going to be at Wrestlemania? I seriously, honestly want to know. Is it because it's in Texas? Because he's going in the Hall of Fame? I don't mean this to come off turbo-douchey, I just want to know if there was something he mentioned to somebody, or something someone passed along to the Observer. Anything. Oh, and that promo was absolutely marvelous. And even though I'd totally be down with Mickey Rourke stepping into the ring with Jericho (and it's a shame he didn't win the Oscar - that would have been THE foreign object to end ALL foreign objects), it makes even less and less sense within the context of the story that all these legends would rely on Rourke to be their champion, simply because he played a legend.

That little pause he had there seemed to go on forever. It's almost like he was thinking "Some career highlight. I had to drop the belt to an Elvis impersonator less than 2 months later." Yeah, I hate it when WWE acts like any title you win for THEM is bigger than any title you could win anywhere else...even if it is occasionally true. But this isn't one of those cases. The NWA world title was the most prestigious belt in wrestling for a long, long time. Being an NWA champion back then was a pretty big deal, and his series with Flair for that title dwarfs everything he did with Vince save for WM3 against Savage. Then again, they'd probably have Christian say winning the European title was a bigger career highlight than the NWA/TNA belt. Now that I think about it, the Steamboat promo doesn't really make that much sense. Steamboat didn't really do much of anything notable in WWE outside of feuding with Savage and Jake the Snake. If you made a DVD about him, at least 75-80% of it would be culled together from his NWA/WCW career. I mean, I get the whole "history is written by the winners" edict, but is it so detrimental to business to acknowledge history?

Steamboat was very well spoken and everything he had to say was true. Kudos! I feel like he was pretty quiet during his career. I'm glad they let him stand up for himself.
Plus it might be Jericho vs Hogan instead of Jericho vs Austin.

Plus it might be Jericho vs Hogan instead of Jericho vs Austin. Imagine that hype... Jericho: "And when I look at all of these broken-down puppets called Legends, you're the biggest hypocrite of them all, Hogan." (The fans boo) Hogan: "Well, let me tell you somethin' little Dude! I don't know if you remember, man, but I was the man who bodyslammed the 4000-pound Andre the Giant, Man, in front of 500,000 people at WrestleMania 47, dude, and he died the nest day, brother! And, also, dude, I was the original Randy "The Ram" Robinson, man, when I slept in my van and hiked fifteen miles in the snow in just my wrestling tights, brother!" Cole: "Vintage Hulk Hogan!"

Why did Rick Steamboat wait 30 years to cut the greatest promo of his career? That was amazing!

I think Steamboat, Piper and whoever else Jericho beats up between now and Wrestlemania will all come out and give him a huge beatdown at WM-and I might actually pay to see that.
So, while I hate Jericho's character nowadays, he completely did his job, because I want to see him get his ass kicked.

IMHO this legend interaction with Jericho is def. leading to a Jericho Austin match at Mania. It's got money written all over it So Austin is definitely competing despite everyone around him saying he is not getting back in the ring ? The current planing that I have heard from the WWE is that IF Hogan is on the card he is facing Cena and IF Rourke is fighting on the card it'll be vs Jericho, most likely in a boxing match. IF Rourke doesn't get in the ring then Y2J will face some legends - there has been no mention of Austin at all outside of the HOF other than in speculation of people mainly desperate to see Hogan-Austin a match that quite frankly is likely to be a train wreck as neither have been active competitors and I have no interest in seeing it as a result.
