The Abdullah's House of Ribs and Chinese Food thread made me think of this place that was, might still be in the Bronx.
It was a combination Mexican/Sushi place. They had two separate phone numbers even though it was the same place.
Anyone else got any weird ones?

Chicken and waffles never sounded like a great combo to me Well it made sense when it was first "invented." Poultry was considered a delicacy to African-Americans in the South who only got to live on scraps and waffles were considered exotic because people mostly ate pancakes. So pairing them together was like a "dream meal." I have seen alot of Chinese/Fried Chicken places. Most of the Chinese places I've gone to make fried chicken though. Unless you mean like fried chicken with biscuits, gravy, and all that kind of stuff?

Wait until the So Cal posters get into this thread. The place is FULL of them. There is even this small chain of restaurants called pizzalato, which specialized in serving, yes you guessed it pizza and gelatos.

The Mexican/Italian restaurant is in Hollywood and the Chinese/Doughnut shop is in South Central LA.

Also, I think I've been to a Chinese Doughnut Shop in LA, but it was near the Sunset Strip, not South Central LA. Probably a different one as I have no idea if they are still in business (haven't been to LA in a little while and whenever I go there, its not like I'm looking for that place lol).

Yeah, I was just gonna ask that myself. Most of the pizza places in NY also sell Italian Ice which is slightly different but the same basic idea.

Idk, I just thought pizza and gelatos were a weird way to promote a restaurant. Its like ones a dinner food and the other is a desert food. Now given tons of restaurants do this. For example, now that McDonalds sells coffee you can get just about anything there barring some crack cocaine and a hummer. However, they still brand themselves as a burger joint.

This thread reminded me of today's Zippy the Pinhead comic strip though.

Mexican/Chinese... Mexican/Italian... Southern Fried Chicken/Chinese... and the BEST combo ever, although it wasn't a restaurant... Dry Cleaning/Accounting.
You will find a lot of places like that in LA/Compton/Santa Ana out here. It's pretty awesome.
