Phenomena: I haven't seen it yet (it's on a long long list of things I hope to eventually see), but I recall when Jennifer Connelly was on Late Night with Conan O'Brien talking about how awful the experience was working with that monkey. That jogged something from my memory, so I took the trouble of searching imdb.com. From the greatest website known to man (well, other than Wrestlecrap, of course): "Jennifer Connelly said in an interview that she was bitten by the chimp in this film. Apperently during one scene the chimp kept turning around and Dario Argento, not wanting to film her behind, asked Connelly to place her hand on the animal to stop her from turning. But when she attempted to do so, the chimp became enraged and bit her; and then became very hostile toward Connelly for the rest of the film." Fulci, I own all of the films mentioned, including the box set - preliminary thoughts, Tenebre and Phenomena are superb, Trauma is pretty good, and the two newer films are passable. Not bad, by any means, but fairly forgettable. A lot of Argento fans really like The Stendhal Syndrome, but for some reason, I didn't find it to be really enjoyable. Call it glandular. And if you haven't seen The Bird with the Crystal Plumage yet, you're in for a real treat. I reviewed it somewhere in the first horror thread. As for Chopping Mall, I don't own a copy...but I have seen it, and it definitely falls in to the "so bad it's good" category. And any excuse to post this gif... ;D

Oh man, I love Chopping Mall! I love that the girl that goes topless has the best effect of the whole movie (the exploding head posted above). If only you had the .gif of the end credits bit, where they show a brief snip of the actors in the movie, then freeze frame on a shot of them and show their name underneath...for that actress, they froze right at the exploding head!
I do own the DVD, and while its far from pristine condition, it didn't look all that bad. *shrug*

Quick question: Anybody know why the FLIX network would consign awesome films like DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE and THE WISDOM OF CROCODILES to the 1:30-3:00 AM purgatory spot? Why the HELL won't they EVER show these movies at a reasonable hour? Three different night time spots for I KNOW WHO KILLED ME, but nothing for these films? Oh, and MOTEL HELL at 4 AM?
Dammit!

My guess? Generally those are older films with more mature content. While I don't believe pay channels (it's a pay channel here) are bound to any rules governing showing adult content at certain times it would most likely be prudent to show programs with adult content later at night. I know who killed me is shown early because... it's still a fairly new movie even if not a success.

I've been absent for about a week due to a mini vacation. You guys are hard to keep up with. I'll post a few thoughts -
I'll get the F13s only as they come out on Blu Ray, I just don't have the money to be as impatient as I was 10 years ago. I'm happy with the BR for part 1, and the thought of HD Amy Steel has me giddy.
Phenomena is one of the first Argentos that I ever saw (as Creepers) and remains one of my favorites. I love the haunting score. The reveal of the kid also ruined a perfectly good pair of my underwear back in the day.
Is the Slaughter High disc already out? I like that movie far more than it probably deserves. Right now I just have my old VHS copied onto a DVD. I'll be adding this one to the collection.

Yeah, it just came out today. Welcome back Thump! Yes, the reviews for slaughter high came out recently and they were none too postive. A crappy full frame dvd transfer from the vestron VHS and a dim-witted trivia track.

Thanks guys, it sounds like my DVDr transfer from my VHS just may be adequate after all.
Some more notes -
I really dig Bava's Demons, especially Bobby Rhodes (the pimp guy).
I'm in the minority (I think) in that I actually liked Mother or Tears. It's not precision art like the earlier movies, but an off the wall Italian horror movie. I think people might like it better if it wasn't an Argento movie. There's a mean streak and an anything goes spirit that I really enjoyed. On the downside, the Mother of Tears prominently displays disappointing looking fake boobs. Check you expectations at the door and you might have a good time.
TR - thanks for making me laugh with your avatar.

Hey DSR, you'll never believe what I found. officialfan.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=otarchives&thread=55815&page=1Man, that takes me back. Back when I was in college, living in my crappy apartment and paying my deadbeat roommate's share of the rent. Love how it just turned into a two-way horror discussion between you and I about midway through. Quick question: Anybody know why the FLIX network would consign awesome films like DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE and THE WISDOM OF CROCODILES to the 1:30-3:00 AM purgatory spot? Did you see The Wisdom of Crocodiles, 'Schach? Awesome, awesome film. While I don't think that I Know Who Killed Me is QUITE as bad as many say it is (like Surviving Christmas, I think that it suffers a little bit just due to a general backlash against its main star), it's nowhere near as good as the movies you listed, which deserve viewership.

I'm skimming through that old thread just now. Ah, to be that young again. Only a few months out of college, and doing all sorts of things to piss off my prick boss at the Movie Gallery (which has since closed down). And it sorta figures that when no one else really gave a s*** about the thread, it'd be just you and me talkin' movies. I'm glad we got this nice roundtable thing going on here now, though. As for I Know Who Killed Me, I haven't seen it yet, but my local Big Lots had a used copy for 6 bucks. If its still there, I may pick it up, if only to look back on my days as a big Lindsay Lohan stalker fan.

Sorry, DP - don't mean to taunt you. Once again, it truly sucks what's happened to your old store. How's that horror monsters/villains tournament coming, btw?
Couple quick things - since I've officially run out of things to buy on Amazon, I've decided to finally begin hitting up the catalog of Lucio Fulci. Only problem - a lot of his films are much more expensive than what I'm accustomed to (even decent used copies fetch $10-plus on Amazon/eBay), so I won't be able to buy them rapid-fire style the way I have with so many of my other horror splurgefests. The Beyond is a must buy, as virtually everyone I've ever talked to about it has loved it. So, what should I focus on after that? I know DSR, and, of course, Fulci, are big fans of the guy.
Second, finally pulled the trigger and purchased the 3-DVD set of Zombie's Halloween. Not because I enjoy the film - I've made my feelings on it pretty well known - but for two other reasons: (1) I've been told that the feature-length documentary on the making of the film is better than the movie itself - sort of a comedy of errors as we watch how somehow, some way, Zombie's dream project turns into a worst-case scenario clustersnork, and (2) Much like last thread's review of Jason Goes to Hell...this is a movie that is long overdue for a TR review. Stay tuned for that one.

Stay tuned for that one. Oh my. That's going to be an interesting review. I was actually going to review, but I think I'll wait for your review. Ahhh Fulci...the man had his hands in a lot of genres. He has truly earn his place as "The Godfather of Gore". I'd start with his "Gates to Hell" films: The Beyond, City of the Living Dead, and The House by the Cementary. From there Zombie 2 (aka Zombie or Zombi depending on the dvd your looking at) is a good choice. He made several giallos such as Don't Torture a Duckling, The New York Ripper, and A Lizard in a Woman's Skin. He even made a western, Four of the Apocalypse. His movies aren't for the faint of heart. One of my favorite examples of this is The New York Ripper (1982) was not only banned from the United Kingdom after its initial release, but all prints of the film were exported from the country. Fulci Lives!

I just recently ordered Sweet Sixteen, Final Exam, The Burning, and the 20th anniversary edition of Child's Play (a long overdue upgrade from my old MGM DVD from 1999). So expect those to be added to my review slate (which I swear I'm going to get around to eventually...that's not dead in the water yet). And oh boy...I can't wait for this review. You and I may disagree on Jason Goes to Hell, but if there's one movie you and I agree on, it's this one. This is going to be a massacre ;D

The Burning is a really awesome flick. What surprised me the most is how genuinely funny the movie is - it's got a really young Jason Alexander in it, and his Seinfeld-level comic timing is already on full display here. Also, one of my friends in high school named his band after the movie.

I know you aren't trying to do that, and I know I sound like a broken record at times. Also, the tournament I put on hold because I was waiting to hear something. If nothing happens I'll try to have it up and running again in the week.

Also, one of my friends in high school named his band after the movie. It's one of my favorite underrated slasher flicks from that period. From Savini's work on the flick, to the raft scene, to Jason Alexander's appearance in the film, it's a cool little slasher. If I had to nitpick, I think the body count is a little lower than it should be. But that's grasping at straws. I'm SO happy to finally upgrade from my muddy, murky DVD-R that was sourced from the uncut R2 DVD. For years, I've been seeing this movie in crappy VHS quality. Now, I can finally see it as it was meant to be seen. Can't wait!
