This memorial deserved its own thread by itself. One of the top pop culture moments any of us will ever see. This thread should be at 200 pages by now. Bravo, Michael.

For those who missed Paris speaking like I did: I don't think there is a big enough to express how I feel right now.

Well, I'm back from the TV with my thoughts.
I gotta tell ya, I thought I'd be OK. I thought I'd dealt with all the sadness with Michael's death.
I was sadly sadly mistaken.
I was doing just fine until the video with Michael singing "You Are Not Alone." Had my fiance on the phone and I just lost it. Cried my eyes out.
Recovered and then they did Will You Be There? I groaned an "Oh no" just before the tears started rolling.
Brooke Shields had the tears there too as did Congresswoman Jackson Lee along with applause.
Then the combo of We Are The World and Heal the World brought the tears back.
Then Paris Jackson reminded me that Michael Jackson was a father. He was a brother. He was a son.
And I cried. And I cry still.
I'm of two minds. On one hand, I'm in pain thinking of how much all the rumors and allegations must have broken this man's heart, given what a gentle and good person he was.
On the other, I rejoice. For now, he is beyond pain and rumor. He is at peace and truly immortal for as long as we listen to the music and remember his skills, he will never be gone and will be with us for my children and my children's children.
Rest in peace, Michael Joesph Jackson and I hope and pray that someday in the future, I may be blessed enough to hear a Jackson original someday, not here but wherever I am going.

How does a little girl deal with losing her daddy? Kudos to Paris.

And no, there is nothing remotely funny about losing a life and I fail to see how it helps someone cope, if you have emotions, express them in grief and sorrow, don't be afraid of that. This is an extremely sad day. People can have different emotions when dealing with death/tragedy, and shouldn't be restricted to getting all teary-eyed and crying their eyes out. There's absolutely nothing wrong with using laughter to cope with the loss of a life. For me, it feels a hell of a lot better to laugh than it does to cry. If that makes dealing with death easier on me, then so be it.

Paris Jackson, Brooke Shields, Jermaine, and Stevie Wonder really got to me. I teared up a few times during this.

My favorite performance of the day, with Stevie Wonder being a close second.

I really love Shaheen's voice, it works so well with Jackson 5 songs.

As for the memorial today, I caught a little bit of it at lunch. Saw Sharpton on TV and immediately stopped watching. I heard Stevie Wonder performed, so I'm gonna have to find a video of that at some point.

And no doubt a DVD release is pending for anyone who missed it.
Amazing statistic I heard on CNN before the service started: that with the uptick in sales for MJ's stuff since his passing, his debt may be entirely paid off within 3 months.
Bet after today it'll be down to six weeks.

Wow, just wow. I missed most of it, but caught the last couple songs and saw Paris speaking. And I cried, I don't know how anyone couldn't cry when they saw that

The laughs that were there, ok, the jokes I've seen here, No way, and the ones I'm referencing in particular, noone would have dared made them at the memorial, it's not classy

I know after the memorial, I can never say any jokes about MJ again. It's so easy to forget a celebrity is a person and it's so tragic that it takes a event like this and a daughter's tears to remind you, to make you drop to your knees, pray for forgiveness and for his soul.
Never again. Not by me anyway.

Paris at the end was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen. Completely bawled over it.
Alot of people forget it, but he was somebody's 'daddy' above all else. It's terrible that this is what it took for us to understand that. And I feel so bad for that little girl, and for her brothers. For the whole family.
Sigh. How awful. Just ... awful.
