From somebody on the superhero hype forums who saw the Elm Street footage at comic con That first part really worries me in regards to the sympathy factor. Eh....he could be lying to save his ass....but I agree...it doesn't bode well. It would have been better had they written it so that he says "I was acquitted! They said I was not guilty! Leave me alone!" or something like that.

I was hoping so too, but this is PD we're talking about. They're 1-1 with me as far as their reboots go. Add my pessimism about this project and naturally, I'm going to anticipate the worst. I will admit, however, that Englund's approval and support of Jackie Earle in the Freddy role has put me at ease a little bit. Like always, we'll see.

***POSSIBLE MAJOR SUPER SPOILERS FOR THE NOES REMAKE. SERIOUSLY, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED, DON'T READ THIS POST***
. . . . . .
One of the more detailed script reviews I read (not the one courtesy of Latino Review) said that the whole innocence thing is indeed BS and that Freddy is totally guilty of the crimes. It is a plot point, but in the end the truth is that he did what he was accused of (and likely far worse than what was known).

Doing it to Leatherface was bad enough, but trying to make a child murderer sympathetic would have been, well...pathetic. I'm glad they're letting the character be his evil self, at least.

Yeah...and then, in the prequel, which would have been the PERFECT chance to redeem the character....they just pile on the fact that Leatherface just does what he does because Hoyt tells him to. Hoyt is the evil one...Leatherface is just a stupid puppy, tagging along at his heels.
But yeah. Here's to hoping that they lay off the shakey-cam, too.

Agreed, the horror genre is missing a villain that kills not because they were abused or don't know better or wronged or have no control (or any other sympathetic motive) but because they ENJOY it, they want to because they are just evil and nothing more. Excuse the run on sentence.

...until the next Saw comes out. Yeah, that's generally how companies market sequels. How else do you expect them to market a long-running horror franchise? "Meh, it's okay...it's better than the last one....but not as good as the first. So, overall, it's okay." just doesn't have the same effect on audiences that "The best ever" does. It's pretty much "How to Market A Stale Horror Sequel" 101.

...until the next Saw comes out. And the one after that, and the one after that..... I really don't see them stopping any time soon. Which wouldn't upset me, except that this franchise is becoming the definition of "running on vapors". There's nothing more to do with it. It has run it's course and is only around now purely for monetary reasons. BAH! As for the WOLFMAN...that sucks. But I think we're actually going to get a quality remake out of that. Anyone hear anything, good or bad, about two upcoming horror entries called THE COLLECTOR and DISTRICT 9? VERY curious about the latter...havent seen much more than a teaser for the former.

Dammit, I want to see this Wolf Man movie. I love the originals, but I feel like they can have some fun with this. I also would like to see that Creature from the Black Lagoon remake they've got in the works. b.) I've heard nothing about The Collector and District 9 beyond what the trailers tell me. District 9 looks really good, though, and the Collector looks like it could be decent.

As far as COLLECTOR goes, it seems like another take on the "victims trapped in X place with Y killer" formula we've been getting a good dose of lately. SPLINTER used it, LAID TO REST used it, heck, I hear there's a killer shark movie in the works called BAIT that strands it's victims in some sort of supermarket with a school of ravenous tiger sharks! But the teaser for COLLECTOR looked cool, and hey, it's the only game in town until FINAL DESTINATION, so I'm game.

So, I re-watched Pet Sematary Two last night for the first time in about 3-4 years. I wanted to see if the movie was as bad as I remembered, or if I just missed something the first time. Unfortunately, the movie is far worse than I remembered.
When I saw it for the first time, it was back-to-back with the first film, which made it look pretty bad in comparison. But even without the first film fresh in my mind, the sequel just flat out doesn't work, for at least a couple of different reasons. The first, and most obvious problem, is the fact that it just screams "cash-in", on both the first film's financial success and Edward Furlong's star power coming off Terminator 2. Most horror cash-ins are of low quality and inferior to the original, although there have been some exceptions in the past (Friday the 13th Part 2, which, in my opinion, is on par with the first film, comes to mind). Secondly, the lack of Stephen King. King crafted an incredibly atmospheric screenplay for the first film, that comes damn close to capturing the essence of his original novel. Pet Sematary the movie was essentially Pet Sematary the book, in condensed form, retaining the most important plot elements and character development from the novel. King's presence is sorely missed here, as the sequel ends up being a boring, predictable snoozefest that is nothing more than a poor man's version of the first film.
The first Pet Sematary ranks as one of my top 10 all-time favorite horror films, which made the sequel that much more disappointing for me. Normally, I'm a completist who likes to collect sequels no matter how bad they are, but this garbage can stay the hell away from my collection. I'd write a more thorough review, but really, what's the point? There was never any need for a sequel in the first place, and this film demonstrates why. Indeed, sometimes dead is better.

I just saw John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness. Now while I may not be a religious person (I dont have a religion), even I have to call BS on the ideas of this film.
