Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to give a quick little thing here:
Yesterday I managed to pick up "Creepshow III" at my Salvation Army store for 3 bucks. I'd been meaning to see it, but because of the terrible reviews, refused to pay full price. And, now that I've seen it, I kinda wish I'd paid even less. This is corny, trite, pointless garbage, in no way capturing the spirit of the first two, or the comic books that inspired them. The only story that even comes kinda close is "The Call Girl." I sorta liked that one. The rest, though, is just awful. Not just because its different, but because its so poorly written and flatly directed. At least when the original Creepshow (my second favorite movie of all time, as I've mentioned) had actors going over the top with their performance, the cinematography was likewise cartoonish to match. Here we have people acting stupid because, apparently, when you can't actually write a horror comedy, you write incredibly stupid annoying people into a lousy, lacking-in-suspense horror movie, and hope people find it funny.
I've wasted enough time on this movie. 1 star out of 5. And I hope Warner Bros. new Creepshow movie (who knows when that's coming out?!) takes its influence from Creepshow and, to a lesser extent, Creepshow 2.

This film has been pretty much universally panned by the horror community, so I'm not at all shocked that you hated it. Based on the reviews, I didn't waste my time with it. "Tales From The Darkside: The Movie" would've been a far more worthy "Creepshow III", if you ask me. And what's this about a new Creepshow movie from Warner? That's the first I've heard of that. In other news, I made another couple of purchases recently. First up is quite possibly TR's most hated horror franchise, as I purchased the Leprechaun "Pot of Gore" box set. The films are just so BAD, that, as someone who loves the mind-numbingly terrible just as much as the greatest horror movies ever made, I couldn't possibly exclude it from my collection (which already includes "lost gems" such as Don't Go In The Woods and Sweet Sixteen). Next up, using a $15 gift certificate from DVD Planet, I purchased Dark Sky's 2-disc special edition of Eaten Alive. Sure, it wasn't quite quite as good as TCM, but few of Hooper's follow-ups were.

Eh, there's been talk for awhile now of a remake/follow-up of Creepshow, being made by Warner Bros. Nothing's really materialized yet, but there's a page for it on IMDB. While I DO love the incredibly awful horror films as much as you (I also own Don't Go in the Woods), I'm not fond of the Leprechaun movies. In my opinion, they aren't even laughably bad...they're just s***. I want to get my hands on a copy of Eaten Alive. One of these days. Hell, I had "The Johnsons" on my list for several years before getting it this past Friday. *shrug*

Ah, let 'em go ahead an remake An American Werewolf in London. Take off the rose-colored glasses, and there's DEFINITELY room for some improvement there, which should be the goal of any remake. And don't get me started on the most abrupt ending in the history of man. Man, that makes me laugh uncontrollably every time I see it.
I'll side with DSR on the Leprechaun series. Not fun to watch, just shit. I like it. ;D And yeah, Guy, it's definitely my most hated horror franchise.

In my opinion, they aren't even laughably bad...they're just s***. To each his own. I don't really expect my tastes in select films and franchises to win me any popularity contests. When I say that I enjoy bad horror films, that includes films that are almost universally hated, even by horror fans themselves. They're enjoyable in an almost masochistic, "Good God, what went wrong here?" sort of way. I even enjoyed the Nail Gun Massacre to some extent. Although I will say, slightly off-topic, that even I can't stand some of the dreck that's been released this decade (for example, the Amityville Horror and Black Christmas remakes) . They're not even "bad" movies in the strictest sense of the term - they're just bland, watered down, MTV-flavoured garbage. I'd gladly take a "shitty" Leprechaun movie over that junk any day of the week.

Well, scratch those two DVDs off my list. I just got an e-mail from DVD Planet stating that they don't ship to P.O. boxes outside the US. Grrrr....those were really good deals too...

Chalk this up to another group of people, who have nothing to do with the original versions, and bastardize a Romero classic. I heard this was awful so kudos to you sir to have the balls to sit and watch it. I imagined watching this movie would have a ring(u) type effect of killing you after watching it.

Yeah, at least Fulci had style when he ripped off Romero to make Zombi 2 (again, Fulci the director...though Fulci, the poster on this forum, is pretty stylin'). *thumbs up* And luckily, Creepshow 3 only killed a small piece of me.

Eh, I settled for the first Scream and didn't even bother with the box set. The first is INFINITELY better than the shitbag sequels, although DSR thinks that the first movie is crap as well.

Yeah, I really don't care for the Scream movies. The first one is better than 2 or 3, sure, but its still a long way away from being an actually good movie, in my estimation. But, y'know, its a horror movie that seems to actively look down its nose at other horror movies, so of course I'm gonna hate it.

Let's beginning this holiday with a holiday themed movie... Christmas Evil Directed by Lewis Jackson This film answers the eternal question on everyone's mind: What would you do if you saw mommy getting felt up by Santa Claus? Why go crazy and murder people, of course! When a young Harry Stadling witnesses the horrifying image of a perverted Santa Claus he learns the awful truth about Christmas: Santa isn't real. Of course, the movie never shows the after effects of the tooth fairy and easter bunny fiascos on a young Harry, but I digress. Grown up Harry becomes a toy marker with a obession of becoming the real Santa: naughty list and all. Well, as you can tell none of this is going to end well. Driven closer to the edge by his co-workers who treat him like a jolly old smuck, Harry finally snaps at the company's Christmas party and becomes old crusader Saint Nick himself. Delivering dirt to the naughty, stolen toys to the good, and a stabbing to those who wronged him. Released in 1980, the film pre-dates Silent Night, Deadly Night with a Santa dressed killer. Odd that this film slipped through the cracks of time while Silent Night, Deadly Night was picketed heavily. Part horror and part comedy this film has what I like in my horror: musical stings, a demented killer, and some interesting kills. Fulci says check it out...or I'll put you on my naughty list. *** stars.

A Cat in the BrainDirected by Lucio Fulci. Now we're going to go a little "meta" with a film about a horror director (Lucio Fulci) being driven crazy by his own movies. Funny it was a horror director who went crazy. I would have figured the Wayans brothers would have been first from all their bad comedy movies. "I make horror films. If I made a love film, no one would buy a ticket." - Lucio Fulci in the film. Fulci's films have always been odd and this one is happily no different. Scenes in the movie have a much more disjointed feel to them then in previous films. Yet this serves the purpose of showing a man on the brink of insanity. When turning on the water fosset can harbor visions of grizzly murders. The film reminded me a bit of Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness or Argento's Tenebre(a) because of all too similar themes. Not a surprise given other director's must have felt the same way at one point or another. Fulci seems to be making a point to both his fans and critics. That the work a director does can liberate the genre and confine the individual. That success can make you infamous, but also utterly replacable. Make no mistake though this is a Fulci film where blood, boobs, music, setting, and camerawork meld into a unforgettable viewing experience. **** stars.

Ooooh, I've been wanting to see this ever since I saw a trailer for it on another Fulci DVD. However, now that it's actually out on DVD in the States, I'm out on my own and can't throw down as much money as I used to on movies so I've constantly been putting it on the backburner.

1.) Christmas Evil is quite goofy, but still an entertaining little picture. A lot of people have called the ending ridiculous, but the trick is you have to pay attention to what you're hearing, and not necessarily what you're seeing.
2.) I've seen A Cat in the Brain at my local Best Buy a few times, but right now my DVD shelves are actually pretty damn packed full of stuff. That's one DVD that, sadly, is gonna have to wait, in my case.

Speaking of DVDs...
As you all know, my recent attempt to purchase the Leprechaun set and Eaten Alive went awry. In retrospect, I'm kind of glad I didn't buy the Leprechaun set. I watched the first two films again on YouTube last night, and they weren't quite as fun as I remember them being 8 years ago. I did some serious rapid fire ordering earlier this evening, both horror and non-horror. I grabbed Deep Red, Chopping Mall, Just Before Dawn, and The Prowler (which I had to re-order after I was initially sent The Howling V and VI - WTF?). I also managed to find Eaten Alive at a reasonable price. Last, but not least, I imported the show Freddy's Nightmares from the UK, just because I'm a NOES fanatic.
