Latest on Fan Attack at ROH
It seems the fan who was sending stuff to the DOI and other sites made up his story and picture. Full credit to the posters on the CZWFans.com message board for browsing through many pages of a google search to find the original black eye picture. I gotta be honest, I dropped the ball on this one, as I have alot of stuff going on that doesn't include covering/reporting on shows featuring men rolling around in their underwear. I just didn't research the story at all and just thought it was entertaining, which is why most fans come to the DOI anyway.
I didn't believe it was 100% true when we posted it, hence our disclaimers, but it was pretty funny. It's another reason why we asked for a picture with a date on it, which why we all know never came. At least it was entertaining BS on a slow news day. Gotta give "Mike Walker", the name of the person who emailed that story/picture credit for his creative writing, it blows out what we do here on DOI! Whoever pulled this, well done, and as much as I raise my stein of beer to the CZWFans board for uncovering this falsehood, I also give you, "Mike Walters" props for coming up with this tale. I really think it would be funny if Gabe was the person behind it, even if I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire while he was waiting for his foodstamps/booking job.
In all seriousness, our apologies to ROH & Austin Aries for printing a fictional story.
We have besmirched ROH in the past on this site intentionally though our legit sources and by allowing Feinstein's fans fake posts on our message board. However, we really didn't mean any crap for you guys this time! Austin Aries is a great talent (I always thought he'd break out big after seeing him at the ECWA Super 8 tournament in 2004) and should not be judged on this incident without all the facts.
There's alot of opinion on this site, but we are sorry if anyone took that story as 100% true, which I'm hoping no one did.
Here's a job for the CZWfan board, since you guys are on sleuth patrol, see if you guys can trace and figure out who Mike Walters at mike_85dub@yahoo.com is. I just don't have the time right now to do it myself. I'll even throw in $20 if someone can give us concrete evidence of who it is and I'll even give that same $20 if the person turns themself in, and the only way the person can turn themself in is by sending me the response I wrote back to his/her original email to me.
My take on all of this is whoever Aries hit had it coming. While we now know the story/picture is a fake (Gotta wonder if it even fooled people in ROH, as I know it fooled alot of other websites, including Figure Four Weekly, who ran with the story) for a wrestler to hit a fan multiple times means the fan did something to incite such a reaction. Whether the fan said something personal or tried to take a shot at Aries, it's obvious something happened to rile up Aries.
With Gabe stealing spotlight from ROH's biggest and highest attended show ever (Hi Gabe!) with his blogs seeking fan praise and this fake fan story, I think not only the DOI but other sites that ran with this story owe ROH an apology. Alot of focus from what has been said as a great and well attended event has been lost, as everyone is talking about how Gabe is trying to keep himself relevant (If the blogs continue, it will become pathetic and old in a few months) and this fan. Hopefully fans can go back to talking about the show, as it seems this is a real exciting time for fans of Ring of Honor.
Good luck to Adam Pearce, Cary Silken and the ROH locker room (except Ross, you can go f*** yourself you coward) in the year 2009 and hopefully the focus from internet fans will go where it belongs - on the wrestling.
While we have been lighthearted here and have taken a few customary shots at Gabe (I mean after all it's DOI right?!?!??!?11111111) I do think if Gabe is looking for a booking job, JAPW would be a perfect fit for him.
JAPW had an off year and Frank is 100x staler booking JAPW than Gabe was booking ROH. It would be a great match because you would have a guy who lives for wrestling to the point where he gets paranoid and starts running the company as a communist dictator would, bring his name, reputation and hundreds of curious eyes to a company that is starting to lose their fanbase. I don't think CZW would be up Gabe's alley and Gabe has stolen so many wrestlers and ideas from JAPW over the years, that he might as well get in at the ground floor now. It would raise JAPW's stock and bring attention the company. Sure after the first two shows, the novelty would wear off, but if those shows were really good, fans would stick with it and it would be the kick in the ass JAPW needs.
Sorry to all who believed the letters as fact, despite our disclaimers.
Happy New Year and don't forget to visit WSUWrestling.com (gotta go for the shill)
