My friend and I were having the discussion this morning over who was the better landlord character on Three's Company. Mr. Roper OR Mr. Furley The Ropers were popular enough to get their own 2 seasons sitcom but Don Knotts wasted no time fitting right in with the cast and did a great job.

Mr. Furley is easily my favourite, but I really like both of them. Three's Company is one of my favourite sitcoms ever.
And dammit, how could you possibly hate Don Knotts? That's right, you can't.

It was more fun seeing Furley be the wannabe ladies man than Mr Roper's marriage issues (both were funny, one was funnier)

When I was a kid I thought Mr. Furley's apartment was ultra snazzy.

I'm from an odd age range where I was alive while the show was on, the last 2 years anyway, but only remember it from reruns. Somehow my earliest memories of the show were of Mr. Furley and had no clue who The Ropers even were until the reruns went back to square one. So since he was the first guy I saw, I just liked him more because it was what I was familiar with.
I had the same issues with these things:
1) Who the heck is this Diane chick and where's Woody?
2) Why is the Charles in Chage theme so wimpy and who are these kids? Where's Nicole Eggert?
3) Why isn't Ralph Malph or Fonzie in the opening credits?
I could probably think of a few more if I wanted to

Mr. Roper, mainly because of the way he'd break the fourth wall and smile at the camera

I've never been able to get into the Ropers. Something about watching someone's unhappy marriage = not good comedy.
I love Furley, though. And his brother Bart.

Both, and The Ropers marriage was not an unhappy one.

I loved both, but have to give it to Mr. Roper. He was sort of like the prototype for Al Bundy. In fact, I can easily see Mr. and Mrs. Roper as a future Al and Peg Bundy.
Also, Teri was the best third roomate.
