When I was a kid, I was terrified of Zeus. I loved this feud when I was a kid and I still love it now. "No Holds Barred" is a guilty pleasure but I still think it was a good movie. Anyone hear the rumor about Hogan/Zeus wrestling at Wrestlemania VI? Anyway, this is one of Hogan's underrated feuds and I really enjoyed it. Anyone agree or disagree?
Proof of its greatness:

There was no reason for this feud the only reason was to get people to see No Holds Barred, because they knew it would flop if they didn't get people to see it

The thing I loved about Hogan was he made his opponents look like threats.
That was cool

Great promo-ahead of its time in a way, with the bad guys portrayed as actually mentally unbalanced particularly a woman.
Randy Savage displayed his usual intensity to full effect, and was perfectly complimented by the raging Zeus, who was so far gone he could barely even speak. Sherri Martel was perhaps the most surprising of the three. Her "you don't know..." line, over and over, was perfectly creepy. Her manual illustrations of what Savage was saying, then her sensual climb up the cage, and finally collapsing to the floor writhing in the ecstasy of psychosis, was just brilliant. Daffney of TNA could learn a lot from Sherri's performance here.

I liked the feud and the movie. I am a huge mark for all those types of movies from the 80's and early-90s (Kickboxer remains one of the favorites, just to name one). The feud was great too. Sure Zeus was not a wrestler, but Hogan built him up to be unbeatable and that lead to an intriguing series of matches. Thankfully they never did a 1-on-1 match (90% of the match would have been Zeus choking Hulk), but the tag matches were good and the blow off cage match was very entertaining.
Haters will hate, but I loved 1989 WWF.

I've always pondered what the rest of the roster were really thinking during that period? Hogan could have feuded with any one of them (supposedly he turned Rick Rude down when Rude asked for a program with him) and instead for basically half of the year he and Vince were that desperate to promote their s***ty movie that Hogan allowed an actor to appear more threatening against him than, say, Randy Savage.
It was the latest chapter in, to borrow a modern phrase, the 'can Hogan overcome the odds?!' story and by far the most comical. I was in my mid 20s when this 'feud' took place and accept that if I'd been a kid I probably would have been enthralled by it.

I was 5 years old when this happened and I was mesmerized by this feud. I was legitimately in fear because I thought Zeus was going to kill Hogan.

I was a little older too. 16 I think. I wish I was in my teens or 20's during the 80's. To see a different perspective. I am sure it would be a different experience for me.

What is wrong with the person who keeps taking these from one of the more heavily trafficked sections to one of the least -- especially when the discussion centers around the enjoyability, the quality, not the crap, of a feud.
I know I'm making someone mad with these criticisms but really, this thread doesn't belong in this section.

I do agree with Bobby the Brain's opinion that Hogans' work in this feud is highly underrated. He took a guy who was more of an actor than a wrestler, who had trouble with one eye, and who barely knew how to work and carried him through a match that actually made money. He deserves merit for that.
This feud was all about promoting the movie, yes. But it also kind of played to the type of feuds Hogan was having at the time. All through the 80's Hogan feuded with Andre, King Kong Bundy, Big John Stud, and Zeus. He was basically the original Cena-"overcoming the odds" as he faced these monster opponents time after time.

He was basically the original Cena-"overcoming the odds" as he faced these monster opponents time after time. Which is why even in 2007, I had dubbed Cena - Hulk Cena. In the perfect world - Hogan would have returned in 2007 and destroyed John Cena in 15 seconds.

The only thing that I couldn't get into was Hogan wasn't supposed to be feuding with the actor, just the character. But it was underrated indeed.
