First of all, let me preface this by saying that I've always been a mark for Jeff Jarrett from the first time I saw one of these promos. I know that this has been a controversial induction into Wrestlecrap, but seriously, listen to these promos! Somehow, by having a match with the Undertaker, he was going to make the "corrupt country music industry" take him seriously. WHAT? www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxKSM1tLGwYThis one starts at 2:40 after a squash match with Mr. Perfect vs. a mulleted Scott(y 2 Hottie) Taylor. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUC66bjmvLk

Absolutely LOVED Jarrett in this role. This, and his 'Chosen One' days in WCW, are my favorites.

My favorites Double J promo was when Roadie (aka Road Dogg Jesse James) just debuted and the two of them tried to make their way into a record label office without success. It ends when the security cam in the elevator gets them and JJ does his spelling.

i really like Jarrett as the country singer. I wish he would have had this gimmick longer.

The "taking over country music through wrestling" angle always made sense to me. It's simple: Get exposure on WWF TV to get his name out there so he can sign to a major label, and perhaps tap into the redneck crowd.
It's kind of like the various divas who you can tell are only using WWE to get in Playboy or some other kind of exposure.

Mickie James is doing the same thing to get into country music... why isn't she a heel, smashing Divas with a breakable guitar?

I never, ever, ever liked anything about Jeff Jarrett. I still don't.

Actually, Honky Tonk Man did it in the 80s. Dont know if he was the first one to do it though. Anyway, I still don't see how his country music gimmick could be inducted. He got over with it, plus, 90% of todays roster would KILL for the overness Jarrett had at the time. When he came back to the WWF doing shoot interviews then later back to that gimmick, it was already stale. Good thing he had his image tweaked after Summerslam 1998.

Yeah, there's really nothing wrong with the gimmick of a singer using the WWF to advance his career. Entertainers do that ALL THE TIME--they use one medium to gain exposure to another one.

The gimmick should have been given to Road Dogg.

Hmm, wouldn't be a lot easier to focus on your music over training as a professional wrestler? I mean, that five years in the indies would probably be put to better use elsewhere?

Who's to say he didn't start out as a wrestler and then decide to become a singer? When he couldn't get hired after that, he decided to go back to wrestling and use that medium for exposure. Again, simple stuff.

The gimmick should have been given to Road Dogg. They kind of tried that by calling him the real double j and saying he was the one who really sang the song my friend to this day still can not stand jarrett because of the electric sunglasses

Thing is, it turned Road Dogg into, ironically, a cheap, face, imitation of Double J without an identity of his own.

Probably one of the top 10 gimmicks on this site that I would pardon. He was good as a Honky Tonk Man V 2 and he was better on offense that HTM. Im a sucker for queery colorful outfits too, sue me.
