I liked the idea and the backlot brawl was really the first 'hardcore' match in WWF which would pave the way for the attitude era. I thought the fight in the back was brutal. However they should have kept it at that just a fight in the street instead if putting all the other crap in and having Goldust stripped in the ring. I wouldn;t say wrestlecrap or induction worthy mostly because of the original fight and also it was one of the highlights of WM 12 (which really isin't;t saying much) and as said it was paving the way for future hardcore and starting to help pave the way for the attitude era. To clear up Piper was acting commissioner at this time as the full time commissioner (Gorilla Monsoon) was out injured due to an assault by Vader (who had not long came into the company at that point) on Raw a couple of months earlier. Commissioner is nows what is called G.M. Actually, they were referring to the position as "president" during that time period. K sorry I meant President (same as Gorilla Monsoon was at that time though he was keyfabe injured because of Vader Piper was standing in for him and Jack Tunney was before Monsoon) Yes to answer the posters question this is the match where Piper kisses and strips (to his womens underwear) Goldust (that was in the arena) Piper was involved in two dumb matches at both WM and Starrcade that year he fought Goldust in an awesome Backlot Brawl which turned dumb once it reached the arena and he beat Hogan at Starrcade 1996 In the main event which was due to Piper writing up the contract a non title match. Which was an awful match with an awful ending.

The only negative part of this match meant that- with Goldust holding the IC Title- that there was no Intercontinental Title match on the card, and this was back when the title still held some prestige. In fact, with the Tag Titles being decided in a tournament final as a DARK MATCH, this Wrestlemania only has one title on the line. Looking at it another way, this is the only Wrestlemania where every single title that was up for grabs changed hands...

It's a pity Hall was being ousted, because around February he was penciled in to face GD in a return title match.
It would of helped the card I think but Hall winning ANOTHER IC title wouldn't get much of a cheer from the crowd I think. If if did it would probably be because of GD being such an unlikeable character, like when Ahmed finally beat him for the belt.
Also, Jarrett was booted about a week after the Rumble right when he was scheduled to face Ahmed at Mania.
The tag match from the Free For All along with Ahmed/Jarrett and Razor/Goldust for the IC title being on the home video would of definately helped this Mania feel like Mania. I watched it on ppv and it came off as a extended IYH.
Better than Mania 11 though. Ive watched that show about 10 times and I still don't remember a whole lot about it. It's one of those shows that just didn't stick good.
Getting back on topic. The Backlot Brawl made me embarrassed watching it. It was like the comedy matches from the Survivor Series shows. I find Brock/Goldberg more entertaining and easier to watch.

I have a feeling that when goldust hit piper with the car, that it was actually a stunt double in roddy's place. notice they cut away from piper before it happens, and afterward?
