I can't claim that I follow that by the letter (lord knows I've done my fair share of complaining about Zombie's Halloween and the 2009 Star Trek movie that seemingly everyone besides me loves), but overall that's the way I feel as well. Well put. You'll also dig that I watched House by the Cemetery this afternoon, and while it's not a movie that I could watch over and over, it's pretty damn good. Who as a kid wasn't terrified of the thing in the basement? I think the movie does a really good job playing on your basic childhood fears, and I found it to be a great scary flick. Yeah, I remember as a kid always being terrified of the basement. I good portion of that fear was that our basement was just storage for all this stuff that wasn't being used whatsoever, in various states of disrepair. Like when you've got a rusted out bicycle that you don't ride anymore, it means nothing to you...it's dead. Though House by the Cemetery certainly added to that fear. I was always afraid the door back up to the kitchen would close on its own and leave me trapped down there. That sort of subconciously stuck with me, even though I couldn't remember just where that mental image came from. Switching gears now, just two days ago I finally got my hands on His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th. Its certainly a fun little documentary, but it doesn't feel quite complete. Its like a good introduction to what makes these films so important to certain people, but I already know why its important to me. I just don't feel like it works as well unless its viewed as a companion to the book Crystal Lake Memories and/or the bonus disc from Paramounts boxed set. Though I must say, seeing Jensen Daggett nowadays re-kindled a crush I had on her from watching Jason Takes Manhattan as a kid. She (and Judie Aronson, for that matter) look even more beautiful than they did in the 80s. ;D At any rate, I still have a good portion of the second disc to watch. I think the documentary was meant as somewhat of an introduction to the series for either casual or non-fans of the franchise. All the names and faces are there to appeal to the hardcore crowd, but ultimately, they know just about everything there is to know about the series. I liked the idea behind it - introduce the series to other people through the eyes of a hardcore fan. I think 90 minutes was a reasonable enough run time for the casual or non-fans. While the hardcore fans may have been willing to sit through 3 or 4 hours of interviews, I doubt it could hold anyone else's attention for that period of time. I think you'll like the second disc - it was practically made for the hardcore fanbase. You get tons of excised interviews from the documentary, and several fun featurettes with references that only the most knowledgable of fans will pick up on. Overall, not a bad little package. It makes for a great companion piece to my collection.

That's kinda what I meant by "Its like a good introduction to what makes these films so important to certain people..." certain people being the hardcore fanbase (of which I am a member). And I have enjoyed the few bits and pieces I've watched from the bonus disc.

I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at Uncle Creepy's "homoerotic shaving" line. Great doc, and great set, IMO.
But I think DSR is right, that it would make a kick ass addendum to the F13 box set.

Jansen Dagget looks like she had some work done on her dirty pillows. Fulci like.

SAW VI Blood Drive Poster: 1. Seems really off-theme for a Saw movie poster. 2. Am I supposed to be scared or aroused? Right now I'm a little of both.

Two things bothering me right now (aside from my persistent headache, which has been with me for three weeks now): the trailer for THE FINAL DESTINATION, and the trailers for Zombie's HALLOWEEN.
FD bothers me because they're giving away ALL the damn kills in the trailers for it! JEEMINY CROW....at this rate, I'll have seen the damn movie twice before it even comes out. Normally, giving things away in the trailers IS a pet peeve of mine, but this is even WORSE in this case, since a lot of the appeal of the FD films is how the kills take you by surprise.
HALLOWEEN II.....these new trailers are just salt in the wound. The little kid asking Myers "Are you a GIANT?" just smacks of Zombie giving the finger to the people who hated how HUGE Myers was in the first one. Allow me to reciprocate that gesture on August 28 by not seeing your piss poor film, Rob.
Kvetching done for now, I also have a couple of things I am happy about: CEMETERY MAN, which is an absolutely amazing film, and the fact that THE NINTH GATE is getting the Blu-Ray treatment and it comes out tomorrow! I've long said that THE NINTH GATE was a very overlooked gem in Johnny Depp's career, and I hope that now that it's getting a re-release, more people will check it out.

So, I just made another blind buy. I believe it was Rorschach who was praising Feast earlier on in the thread, so I took a chance and ordered it. It certainly sounds like an interesting and highly unpredictable premise, so I look forward to its arrival.

Man, I thought the same thing, the recent Friday the 13th also did that and it irritated me to no end. I guess they want to hook you with the first 10 seconds of it in the hopes that the next 10 seconds will blow you away or something. Anyway, I just got done watching one of my favourite horror films of the 90's Event Horizon. Really a great picture and a real stand out in this type of film because they don't just come out and say what the Hell is going on and where exactly the ship has been and what it brought back, they just leave it up to the viewer. Unknown horror like that works really well and it's kind of a shame it's not done more often. It really reminded me of a cthulhu mythos tale, probably intentionally which is kind of cool as Sam Neill also did In the Mouth of Madness another cthulhu mythos tale. We get a horror so horrible people yank out their own eyes to not see it anymore and they only show us just slight visions of it which just works so well. All that gothic ship design is quite cool as well. Kind of make me wish Paul Anderson would do another straight horror flick as opposed to his action/horror stuff that he seems to love, not that I don't like that, I'd just like to see him do the straight stuff one more time.

Will still go to see it though....on the plus side RZ seems to be making this installment entirely his own film be it for better or for worse.

Since others have brought it up, I want to say that I didn't particularly care for Cemetery Man the first time I watched it, but it got better on repeat viewings. I can't honestly explain why that is, either.

I haven't seen any of the series but from what I've heard, the first movie is good, the second movie is horrible and the third movie is better than the first. Let me know how it is and I might check it out too.
