Before I get to the question, I know not EVERYONE here is fans of either man and some would even leave them off their top 10 lists if voting for Wrestler of the Year opened today. But just going by the majority of posts here, these two seem to be the run away leaders. Jeff was up there until recent events and the fact that he would be gone the rest of the year came up. Rey could also be high on lists, but for now let's just narrow it down between these two.
I think both guys have very similar and strong cases to win the honor. Look at what both have done this year.
Jericho
-Along with Rey he totally rejuvenated and resurrected the Intercontinental Championship. Now with Big Show is actively doing the same for the Tag Team Championships.
-Involved in arguably the best verbal feud of the year with the legends, and the best in ring feud of the year with Rey Mysterio.
-Many consider him to be the best promo man in the company, and the biggest heel as far as garnering heat on top of that.
-Catalog of great matches this year from Cena to Punk to Morrison to Rey to now MVP.
CM Punk
-Been given the ball for good this time and is running with it as a now three time World Heavyweight Champion.
-Right up there with Jericho as far as feuds. Involved in arguably the best verbal AND in ring feud of the year against Jeff Hardy.
-Many who don't consider Jericho THE promo man in the company say Punk is. His straight edge promos have been what many wanted since his ROH days, and unlike last year he's getting ample time on the stick. Rivals Jericho for heel heat as well.
-Maybe not quite as many great matches as Jericho, but still had his fair share. The matches with Jeff, Edge, Jericho, Rey, etc.
So even if you wouldn't vote either on top of your list, between the two right now who would you vote for as WOTY if I had the list voting thread up?

I know it's OT with the thread but i think a feud between these two would actually be pretty 'meh'. Punk's gimmick IS limited at times, especially against a heel. Doesn't work with Jericho face either.
As for the poll i gotta go with Y2J. He's better in the ring..

For me I said Jericho. They're almost dead even in every aspect (though I think Jericho has had the better matches), but the way Jericho helped revive two practically dead midcard titles gives him a slight edge for me. At least now in September.

Honestly? I'm more inclined to say either Edge or Jeff Hardy - Punk's spent most of the year getting beaten up and I don't really care for him as a heel (though I am a big fan), and those two carried the show for the first half of the year while Jericho's... just kinda been there.

I am going with CM Punk. I feel he is just so great at the moment and fresh and he will move forward with the times and change with the times. That will keep Punk in the main event for years. I also feel he is one of the best heels today.
There is a reason he is the world champion and Y2J is the tag champ.

I'm going with Punk.
Don't get me wrong, I like both and actually prefer Jericho, but this has been the year of Punk.

Jericho is the greater talent but he's wasted in Jerishow, Punk has made the bigger impact so far this year much to my dismay.
COME ON WWE, GET JERICHO IN THE F'ING TITLE PICTURE.

Jericho has been a bit overrated this year i feel and there is someone else i would vote as wrestler for wrestler of the year over either man but i would say Punk of the two. Punk has had some really great matches, but it is his amazing work as a heel that really lefts him for me. He would likely be my #2 if i were to vote right now. Jericho would be around 5 or 6 maybe.

Jericho wins for Wrestler of the Year (based purely on ring work), but Punk wins for Heel of the Year.

ATM, my list is 1) Punk, 2) Jericho, 3) Morrison, 4) Rey 5) Jeff Hardy. It could change, especially if HBK has a couple of stellar matches in the 2nd half of the year.

I'll be honest and say that if I had to pick anyone it'd be Morrison, strictly for his amazing matches.
That said, I had to go with Jericho on this one. I actually perfer Punk's promos and in-ring work more (though not by much) but Jericho revived the IC title in a single feud with Mysterio. That, to me, is mind boggling. And now he's trying to make the Tag Title relevant again.

As much as I love Jericho, I've gotta go with Punk. He's been simply amazing. Love his promos, love his ringwork. He speaks to me as a wrestling fan in a way that nobody else really has, if that makes sense, this year.

Not sure who I'd choose but it is probably clear at this point in the year, that these two men are the only choices.
An argument can be made for both that's for sure.
As for Jericho back in the ME scene... I can see that happening again sure, but you need to look at the bigger picture right now. He has been handed the immense responsibility of reviving the credibility of two DEAD and I mean DEAD divisions. He is the only man capable of being on both brands wrestling solid matches every single night between house shows and TV, not to mention carrying the lackluster men in the tag division, to decent matches each and every month on PPV. If you look at the guy you can see what this has been doing to him, he has the heaviest schedule of any WWE Superstar by far (strictly going by the amount of time he is in the ring each week) and he isn't the youngest guy in the locker room.
He'll be back in contention for World Championships soon enough, for now lets just enjoy our favorite wrestler working overtime hours to entertain us... because that is the REAL fan service.

Punk. 2009, like others have said, has been his year.
Chris Jericho has had a pretty awesome year, yes, but his time on top was 2008, and it's not exactly like he's wasting away now. Still gets mic time, is showcased heavily, and is a champion, so he's got that going for him. Still, Punk has really blossomed.

It's a shame Rey got suspended or I'd have picked him, I couldn't stand him at the start of the year but he's been great since No way out.
I'll have to go for Punk unless he has a terrible end to the year.

As much as I detest him now I would say Punk. He's an awesome heel and he made me root for everyone he has been facing since he transformed into Preachy McHypocrite. Caffeine is a drug, btw. ;-)

Punk by miles and miles and miles. Jericho's done little worthy of being WOTY IMO.
