Want to chip in? I've only marked the 'home states' of the organisations I know of at the time. Eventually, I'd like to expand the map into other states promotions held events in, battle grounds and the like. Also, there's the matter of those territories I completely forgot about. Just thought it might be neat, as a snapshot of the territories just before the attempts at national expansion began in earnest.

You can put Crockett up to Maryland, WWF to PA, they filmed all/most of their tv there in 84, and Jersey, as well as Conn, Mass, etc. Ohio was kind of split, as was WV, but they both ran WWF shows a lot by 84 as well.

Mid South in Louisiana Mid-Atlantic in North Carolina And if you had Canada on the map, you would definitely have to add Stampede.

The Sheik's promotion(I forget the name, but it was something kind of dumb sounding) should get the Michigan territory, as that was where Sheik was the biggest.

And Blassie/Patterson ruled the roost out in CA for some time.

AWA had Nevada and Colorado as well. Watts/Mid-South/UWF had OK, LA and Mississippi,

Didn't The Rock's grandmother run NWA in Hawaii?

1984, right? Western Pennsylvania, parts of West Virgina, and a few towns in Tennessee (I think) were ruled by Three Rivers Wrestling, a promotion run by Pittsburgh legend Lord Zoltan.

In the Mid Atlantic area wouldn't it look sort of like a ven diagram with federations/promotions over-lapping?

Wow, Poffo's ICW was more out West than I'd originally thought (unless i'm too stupid to read a map)- for some reason I always pictured them overlapping Memphis. Well, they kinda are in that one tiny spot. A thousand thanks for this map. ;D

Poffo's ICW didn't go that far west. The same color is used for Roy Shire's San Francisco territory.
It's an accurate map, but the colors being the same makes some overlap and it can be confusing.

Looking really closely, you can see a line going through SW Colorodo, Utah and Arizona separating Poffo and Shire.

You should throw Washington in with Oregon as far as Don Owen goes, just as the map says. He had both of those territories down cold. Supposedly Idaho was part of it but I can't recall a single time the promotion ever ventured out there.

There are some mistakes in WWE's map, but for the most part it's accurate.

Are the white parts like Idaho (which I seriously hope did not have wrestling until 1994) really parts unknown?

Okay, saved the map and zoomed in on it. Yep, Northern Cali was Shire. ICW was Lexington and middle Kentucky. Everything out west that isn't colored is parts unknown.
Still, it needs to be better colored.
