After reading the thread about Lashley not living up to expectations, I felt motivated to start a thread concerning Vince McMahon's obvious preference for hosses. I mean, come on, one of the biggest complaints here on the crap has always been that WWE loves to bring in guys who are mind-bogglingly huge, but who have zero charisma or in ring talent.
Lets face it, wrestling has always relied on the big guys, WWE?WWF/WWWF especially. Since the earliest days of guys like Gorilla Monsoon and Killer Kowalski, through to the days of King Kong Bundy, Andre, and Big John Studd. And even without those guys, the ones like Hulk Hogan, Paul Onrdorf, Ivan Putski, and others, were all big and hercuneanly muscular. If any of us ran a wrestling organization and enjoyed that kind of succes with men like that, it would naturally create a preference for men of their stature. But on the same note, that is no excuse for hiring talentless hacks and trying to make them the second coming of such legends.
My honest belief is that Vince just is on a constant search for the next Andre. The only problem is, Andre was one of a kind. While Hogan did indeed raise the WWF to new levels, lets face it, he could never have done it without Andre. Andre was wrestling's original phenomenon. There will be other man who's legend will rise alongside of Andre's, but there will never be another like him. He was so unique for his time, that such an effect can never be repeated.
The funny part is, its Vince's very addiction to hosses that has made it impossible for there to ever be another Andre. Big Show could very easily have been Andre's successor, but when you've got guys like Undertaker, Kane, Lesnar, Lashley, Nathan Jones, A-Train, Batista, and others running around, a guy like Big Show just doesn't look as impressive as Andre did in his time. And is true that while Vince blindly seeks a new Andre, he ignores men like Jericho, Benoit, Mysterio, Tazz, and others who despite being somewhat vertically challenged, are overflowing with talent. In the end, it is a sadly self defeating cycle.
