Hate to sound elitist, but I don't think just "any" girl will watch wrestling. The giggling gaggle of Paris Hilton-wannabes will never watch wrestling simply because its not rammed down their throats 24/7. How many girls watch X Factor or Big Brother or some insipid, ultra-popular mainstream show? I think girls that tend to think "outside of the box" as it were can appreciate wrestling for what it is.
I dunno, I think wrestling is the sort of thing that once you start watching it, it gets under your skin and you always have an interest in it.
My wife never watched wrestling until she met me, and the soap opera element keeps them interested and the eye candy like HBK, Randy Orton and Cena doesn't hurt either.

It's all Randy Orton. No matter what he does, there's always a pack o' ladies screaming in desire for his immature well-sculpted figure. Damn that asshole.

I can't believe so many guys are under the impression that girls only watch wrestling because of the semi-naked guys factor. I think women are deeper and more sophisticated than that. I mean, do guys ONLY watch wrestling because of the half naked divas?

If that wasn't the case, then why would Vince & co. prance them around the ring w/ basically nothing on? I'm not talking Victoria or Mickie or a few others that have some wrestling knowledge and in-ring abilities, but let's face it, there are quite a few divas that are only there for "eye candy" purposes to attract some casual 18-35 male viewers. Pillow fights, lingerie matches, Diva contests; these things are all designed to keep the targeted demographic watching and draw in new ones.

Well I can only speak for myself but I started watching wrestling back in the Attitude era because most of my friends at the time were guys and I just fell in love with it. Yes there are men that are good looking with nice bodies but that isn't the reason why I watch it. I watch because of the wrestlers, characters, storylines and wrestling ability. Enjoying a good wrestling show transends genders. I love wrestling more than anything besides family and friends. Just because alot of men watch wrestling doesn't mean it's a man's show.

I started watching when i was 11/12. absolutly zero sexual thoughts in my mind then. Says the girl with a picture of Shawn in a bath towel in her sig. Times change, i'm not 11 or 12 anymore and i have the sig for two reasons:
Wondered if it would get banned, as it's porn.
wondered if anyone would get pissed the way they did with the "naked" hbk picture.
also (ok three reasons) i forgot it was still that.
and leon is right.
and curmudgeon is also right. I am different to the "normal" girl in so many ways you'd think i was a guy.
i named Kurt and Stonecold as the reason i started watching. niether guy does anything for me as far as attractiveness

I also am not the "Paris Hilton type", do you think I give a crap about the coolest new fashion trend that will only last 3 months? No, I wear what I like and what I look good in. My favorite wrestler was Kane when I first started watching wrestling because I felt bad for him that his brother burned him at the time. Good looks do not determine my favorite wrestler, I think Matt Hardy is not good looking but yet he is one of my favorite wrestlers, I think Randy Orton is good looking and underated but I know he's an asshole, I love CM Punk because of his kickass promos that I found on the net and the matches I have seen of him. I also think John Cena looks like an ape. So I am not your "normal" girl.

RoH doesn't have a whole lot of that stuff on their shows & they're still pretty damn popular. I mean, guys still watch RoH, right? Sure there are a few women there, they may be good-looking, but they're not trotted out in these eye-candy matches. I think it's safe to say that RoH aren't relying on "Divas", as such, to pull in fans.

^ Actually, at a RAW house show I attended last night, I saw many beautiful 18-25 yr old women by themselves cheering not only Cena, but most of the WWE superstars. I did at my one event I went to, also. You guys probably don't believe me(unless you've gone to wrestling shows), but wrestling shows are babe shows

Or the "ladies" in the iMPACT! Zone? They make your sig "girls" seem to be overflowing with oestrogen (sp?).

I watch it mainly because I really like it. It's fun and funny and cool. Is that wrong?

I understand all of that, but think about this scenerio for a moment. Five or six girls/women who are approximately 22-years-old are preparing to go to a movie, mall, store or club. They're all dolled up and look really gorgeous. And then one of them says, "wait a minute, I can't go out tonight because I want to see if DX responds to VKM's challenge." I cannot imagine that happening...ever! Maybe all this means is that the stigma associated with watching wrestling is even stronger for the female fan base than it is for the male fan base. Wow, I might have made a real breakthrough herer. as bad as this might make me sound, i've definitely planned going out around Raw. people also know not to disturb me between 9-11 unless they want a play by play of what is happening or have me interrupt them with random 'holy shit!'s' or 'wtf?!' why do i like wrestling? hmmm...well i've been watching it since i was really young. my grandmother and my dad brought me up on it. young mark. it's fun to get into and riled up about. going to shows is a lot of fun, like any other sporting event (although CT crowds aren't too great at cheering and shit) with everyone else around you into it, you get more into it. good times

I think it's the soap opera element above all. I remember when the dysfunctional family storyline with the McMahons was in full swing back in 2000, a couple of female friends really got into it.

Everyone know why we male fans watch it - because we're a bunch of angry, violent misfits who aren't smart enough to do anything more constructive with our time (this is the stereotype, not my real opinion). So, why do women watch it? I mean, how often do you see a beautiful woman with soft hair, a pretty face and legs to die for holding up a "Cena rules" sign? You often see cute girls hold up Cena rules or DX signs, and there were a plethora of chicks flashing DX back in the days. Girls watch it for the same reason guys do. because the wrestlers are hot.

Maybe and I'm putting my neck on the line here, but maybe because they enjoy it. What he said.

Maybe the womenfolk watch it because for the most part it is entertaining?

I never said that guys didn't enjoy the divas stuff, because they obviously do. But I don't think there are many (if any) guys who watch WWE first and foremost to see the divas in lingerie. Yes it is a factor keeps the guys entertained, but it's not the sole attraction! In other words if we held a poll on which WM22 match was everyone's favorite, I don't think the Candice vs Torrie Pillow Fight would win. I don't even think it would get 5% of the votes. (But that all depends on how well Jerry Lawler is at hacking online polls. ;D )
