As most posters know the WWE have recently been in discussions with NJPW. While in all likely hood nothing serious will come from this, I thought it would be fun to take an optimistic look at the meetings.
Let's say Vince and members of NJPW really hit it off to the point where Wrestlemania 24 takes part in Japan. Could a WWE Dome Show work in today's wrestling scene? What would the card be? What would be some ways to handle the time differences?
What I would do is utilize the Hall of Fame to help give Wrestlemania that extra Asian touch. Induct guys like Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami into the Hall of Fame that year. Maybe even some American guys who had been successful in Japan that still have a good relationship with the WWE, like Terry Funk, Vader, maybe even Mick Foley.
I think the show could work much better if it was put on early in Japan. Like maybe around 3:00 pm. That way it would still be live at about 8:00 pm in the United States.
For matches, though it would be in Japan, it would still ultiately be a WWE card. I'd say to keep the matces mostly involving WWE stars that are with the company now. Maybe make two or three exceptions with two lowercard matches featuring Japanese stars and one of the uppercard matches featuring a Japanese star.
For these matches I was thinking along the lines of whoever was the cruiserweight champion at the time (preferiably a higflyer) defend the title in one of those roundrobin gauntlet matches against a wide assortment of Japanese cruiserweights. Maybe even have the winner of the match sign a contract with the WWE prior to the match and his first appearance with the WWE, so it really looks like anything could happen at the show.
For another lowercard match maybe throw Chris Benoit in there with Jushin Thunder Liger, Ultimo Dragon or someone else he faced in the past. This wrestler would have to appear on WWE programming prior to the event so that the match at Wrestlemania XXIV is not just tossed together.
For the uppercard match I think the Great Muta versus the Undertaker may be one way to go. But then again Undertaker would pretty much be foreseen as the winner. Maybe a Lashley versus Bob Sapp match (although that one doesn't really personally appeal to me).
Also for those not appearing in matches, the event could also be littered with a bunch of cameos from other prominent NJPW stars.
And the main event?
John Cena versus Funaki!!! Well not really, but I don't know who would really work to top the bill at this show.
