partial source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter
Regarding the WWE future of Joey Mercury, he is scheduled to be a full-time "jobber to the stars" singles wrestler on SmackDown upon his return, which is scheduled for February. He appeared to have lost his push during the Heyman/Lagana transition. Furthermore, Mercury was actually on the verge of being released from the company, but Heyman wanted to push him in ECW. Head ECW writer Dave Lagana isn't too interested in using him, so he let SmackDown have him. Also, Lagana wants Gene Snitsky in the spot Joey Mercury was supposed to have in ECW.
That sucks. At least give him a phantom of the opera gimmick or something...

...Lasagna needs to be kicked in the head. Seriously. I know a lot of people want Snitsky to go onto something big, but can you honestly say it should come at the cost of any push Mercury might have gotten?
Also, are they really not going to see this Hardyz/MNM feud through to Wrestlemania? THIS IS A LICENSE TO PRINT MONEY!!!

They have no use for Joey Mercury, but talentless stiffs week after week appear on WWE TV and look to be busting their ass about as little as they have to. Meanwhile, he's on Smackdown 2 days later with a f***ed up face doing an angle.
No wonder my love for wrestling took a nose dive over the last year.

Wow, so they have a guy who had a chance to be a brilliant sympathetic babyface because of his injury, and they just flush it down the toilet? Man, WWE creative's starting to piss me off.

But why. They have so much ammunition from this, and they do can do so much with it. Plus, Mercury is a great talent, and a well traveled 10 year vetern. He trained with the Hardys for god sakes, and MNM are feuding with them, we have something of an angle right there.
Have Hardy and Mercury feud. They'll put on great matches.

I knew WWE would screw it up. Mercury actually got a pretty good face pop when he came out...but then he started running down the Hardy Boys for "trying to cripple him."

How could they not go with Hardys vs. MNM? You've got a pre-existing Jeff/Nitro feud, a storyline motivation that wrote itself (Mercury's injury), and four guys who don't mind busting their ass in the ring. I like Nitro as a singles heel just fine, but throwing away the Hardys vs. MNM without so much as a rematch is ridiculous.

Plus as i said, it's one of the best tag teams of the post-attitude Era (MNM) vs. one of the biggest drawing tag teams of the Attitude Era (Hardyz). It is a virtual license to print money, and just like the InVasion, they're going to f*** it up.

God, Joey Mercury could actually be a big star, and they gonna give that spot to a waste of space like Snitsky? Seriously I know everyone here thinks its so halirious to say "DUDE, SNITSKY RULES!" and ACT like hes cool and stuff. But hes never gonna be a big star, he brings nothing to "the table". He doesnt have the look of a big star, or any of the skills of one. Mercury deffinatly does...

WCW did the same thing when Buff Bagwell nearly broke his neck because of Rick Steiner's botched bulldog, The crowd was sympathetic towards him and he could of been of been on another leve, WCW turned Bagwell heel instead. Sadly Joey Mercury looks to have a worst fate. Joey Mercury = 2007 Marty Jeanetty.

I will still never understand why the broke up MNM in the first place. Because Mercury failed a drug test and I thought I heard something about Melina getting heat in the Smackdown locker room for being a big Hootie Hoo! so they moved her and Nitro to Raw. I could be wrong on that last one.

I mean, they could reunite him with Christian York. It's not like those two never worked together.

Wait what, what, what? ?? They are going to give Mercury's well deserved post-injury push to f'n SNITSKY?!?!?!? Where is the logic in that? I was looking forward to a potential MNM-Hardys feud and would've actually bought the PPV it culminated on, but after reading this never mind. This is even worse than what has happened to Val Venis's career, promising talent turned into a jobber, except you know Mercury was almost BLINDED in a match for busting his ass so hard.
