So let's go back in time about a year and a few months, when ECW was first debuting. We all knew that it was risky as hell, and yet exciting that E-C-W might be resurrected.
Now a year later, and it's an abomination of what ECW was, because it just plain isn't ECW.
But, what if Vince & Co. had simply brought out a third roster split, leaving just about everything the same yet without calling it ECW? Hell, you could even have had Heyman come out and lead it, and basically leave everything the same, just not call it ECW.
Call it WWExtreme, or something like that.
But anyway, do you think Roster Split 3 would have been better received, and a better product if it never started out trying to rip off the name ECW when WWE couldn't deliver the substance of ECW?
Thoughts?

A third brand would be cool still, because it's more wrestling. Even a different name then WWExtreme or whatever, because it still tries to be like ECW.
I don't know if it would have got the Tv deal though. The name "ECW" is what sparked the interest, and I don't think that the office gets that.

The name hasn't caused the tail spin in show quality its had since D2D. But it would have stopped all the arguments of THIS ISN'T ECW before they even started.

It would have been a better idea to not use ECW.
Using the name ECW with such a product that is clearly "same ole' WWE" may actually harm the WWE when they try to sell old ECW events on DVD, because "new ECW" may taint the old company.
Had Vince simply created a third brand with a WWE name, I don't believe it would have harmed the brand. The "ECW" name hasn't made any impact because Vince had no intention of doing anything different to what he does with Raw and Smackdown.

I don't think so. Without the ECW name, the show is just another Heat, or Velocity, or Metal, or Jakked, or Shotgun, or....well you get my point. With ECW, it has instant interest.

Yeah, I think calling it ECW was definitely a better decision than "Tuesday Night Heat"

The name's only part of the whole mess! ECW purists were against it from day 1... But for the green & uninitiated, they were subjected to a poor quality product, bad plotlines, uninteresting characters & overall dull pointless crap! However it did bring the likes of C.M. Punk to a Global audience & tho I'm not a fan of 'The Pepsi Cola Kid' a lot of people are!

Yeah, I think calling it ECW was definitely a better decision than "Tuesday Night Heat" Or "WWE Tuesday Night coming to us live from tha Mothaship" (which given that it's on Sci-Fi, it easily could've gone down that way)

They could have called it something else and booked it as a Velocity/Heat kinda thing but anyone can show up from Raw and Smackdown.

They should've called it "ECW" and made it 75% like the original version. It would've worked.

They should just call it the "Extreme" brand.

Was always a stupid idea - was always going to fail. They could have called it the Paul Heyman Alternative Happy Hour it would have still bombed.
The only thing it had was the loyal ECW zealots who quickly realized the product bore no resemblence to that which Hat Guy used to mark out over.

Regardless it had to become a 3rd extension despite any name they give it. ECW isn't a success right now simply because the show sucks and only 6 guys get exposure. They were totally on to something when it was high paced, high action. They were putting on 5 matches in 1 hour and didn't BS through the show. It was great and now it's ruined

I certainly would (still) hate it less if it weren't called ECW and didn't have all these ECW originals trying to make it look like it's imitating ECW or even having remnants of the thing.
