Just when I think I’ve heard the best story ever, something tops it. The creators of the animated series Assy McGee have filed suit against WWE over the Vince McMahon’s Ass cartoon which debuted recently on WWE.com. Swear to Christ. The way the story goes, Michael Cole, who runs WWE.com, asked one of his staffers to come up with a creative idea that the boss would like. Apparently this guy decided to just rip off Assy McGee, which is a sitcom that airs during Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network about a police offer who is — surprise, surprise — a walking ass with a gun. Worse, a few of the storylines from Mr. McMahon’s Ass were blatantly stolen from Assy McGee. Even more humiliating for Vince is that Cartoon Network is owned by TURNER BROADCASTING, his old rival, and they can’t even really take this to court since they’ve got no defense whatsoever. Vince loved the Vince McMahon’s Ass cartoon, thinking it was the best thing in the world that there was a CARTOON about HIS ASS, and when this all came down shortly before Christmas he blew a gasket. Cole, who had hired a separate flash animator to produce the cartoon full-time and was also working on t-shirts (seriously), claimed he’d never even heard of Assy McGee. This hardly flew, and it appears WWE will have to be pay for the mistake in cash to Turner. Cole is said to be in serious trouble and there is a chance he’ll be fired as head of WWE.com (though we’re told his Smackdown announcing gig is not in jeopardy).
David Lagana is pushing to get Chris Masters onto the ECW show. He’s pretty much doomed on Raw for a number of reasons as the breaking of the Masterlock on the Christmas show made pretty clear. I realize there was interference and I realize this was a special show, but a 145-pound man broke the Masterlock after nearly two-plus years of it being Masters’ gimmick (February 2005 to be exact). He’s the current geek of the week on Raw, with many of the top guys including HHH and Edge constantly burying him to Brian Gewirtz and the McMahons. The stuff you see occasionally on TV, such as HHH making fun of him for losing 50 pounds, same stuff goes on in the back as well. There is a belief that he has potential and that the ECW locker room would be a better fit as he’s a young guy (24) and it’s a young guy locker room, and there aren’t the big stars there to rib him.
Barry Windham has been signed as an agent.
Mike Foley on the Raw vs. Smackdown videogame in WWE Magazine: “My kids love creating wrestlers — they’ve created this guy called Charismatic Test. He must be a fake, because we all know he doesn’t exist”.
Booker T ran his first Pro Wrestling Alliance show in Houston last week. This is the promotion he runs in association with his wrestling school. He worked the main event, beating Charlie Haas. They did an angle afterwards setting up Sylvan Grenier & Rene Dupre vs. Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin for the next show. Umaga (said to be super over), Boogeyman (ditto), Torrie Wilson, MVP (who introduced his wrestling “brother”, VIP, which is actually pretty creative), and Mitch of the Spirit Squad also worked the show. Booker keeps some odd company. With WWE allowing so much talent to work the shows, wouldn’t surprise me to see some sort of developmental deal set up eventually. They also did a student match that the people were into, so I’d assume Booker made sure the students sold tickets to their family.
