I watched the Tribute to the troops and i enjoyed the Hel out of it, and do u know why? Because it involved good wrestling matches and not two hours of just talking
Now i know that for a TV show to be successful and for story lines there has to be some interveiws and promos but i really wish they could put some solid matches on their shows also.
thoughts???

Maybe they feel the novelty of being in Iraq is enough to draw viewers.
With normal RAW broadcasts, they don't have that so they feel the need to add dumb skits and segments.

Also, the crowd seemed to give a crap about what they were watching.
Although Umaga still got zero reaction to a lot of what he did...

No pyro, no overlong skits, no titantron, just solid wrestling.
What a novel concept!
Pull your head out of your ass, Vince. You have some of the best talent in the world. Quit squandering it.

No emphasis on crappy storylines or offensive skits. This, however, will not continue and status quo will return next Monday.

As far as an entertaining TV show goes, I thought the Tribute show was a little dry. I'm a fan of great matches and great wrestling action, but I'm also a fan of great skits and storyline developing. When the two are blended together correctly, then the show is very entertaining; even the matches sometimes themselves tell a storyline. But when wrestlers are thrown together for matches and little storyline is being developed or beign told, then the end result is somewhat "boring". A wrestler performing an arm-bar or choke-hold for 5 minutes straight is dry; but a wrestler performing the same maneauvers while goating the crowd or over-selling the move to sell drama and reaction, then it's more entertaining. I was thinking this during the 'Taker / Nitro match; they just performed very flat.
Now, that's the entertainment side, but the other side of the coin is the fact that the WWE went overseas to put on a show for the Armed Forces, which is very cool. If I was in there shoes, I wouldn't care what kind of show the WWE put on; heck, Eugene could have been wrestling Hacksaw in the main event for all I care, but at least it's something different to do over there and you can think about something other than the violence.
In the end, I give the WWE props for promoting the troops and giving them a show, but for my selfish entertaining point of view, I would have much rather watched a regular RAW show or a "best of 2006".

The show was pretty much like a big house show, with the lack of having any storylines in it. Plus also, the matches were involving stars from all the brands. Also, all the faces went over in that show so the crowd would be even happier I guess. But overall, it definitely was a great show.

No pyro, no overlong skits, no titantron, just solid wrestling. What a novel concept! Don't forget JR and The King actually calling the action in the ring during each match. That also made the show feel unusual.

That also made the show feel unusual. Maybe it would improve their commentating if they did every show from the studios in Stamford. Sad that the spanish commentary is usually much better than JR's and Lawler's.

as stated earlier, it was for the troops. that overrides any wrestling element. it was a good and entertaining event. unfortunately, the wwe couldn't bring k-fed and leave him there to sacrifice or something.

That also made the show feel unusual. Except for the CM Punk match where they needed to talk about the old man in the crowd who coordinates all these events, as well as show us HELICOPTERS FLYING AROUND SOLDIERS!!!!!! OMFG, I never thought I'd see the day I'd see those 2 things together!!!!!!!1111111

You can thank the Attitude era for the skits and talking. Guys like Rock, Austin, E&C, etc were so over with backstage stuff that they just keep trying it, often times to no avail.

RAW cant be more like Tribute bc.... Vince doesnt like good, solid wrestling... thats why ECW is in the can, too...

RAW cant be more like Tribute bc.... Vince doesnt like good, solid wrestling... thats why ECW is in the can, too... It doesn't have anything to do with Vince's preference, whatever that may be. He's doing what he believes (correctly), will lead to the most profitable company. Vince destroyed literally dozens of "old school" wrestling promotions, and made himself an incredibly rich man by focusing on characters over wrestling. Maybe wrestling had had a resurgence among a core group of hardcore fans, but those fans, for the most part, show up no matter what. A mainstream wrestling promotion NEEDS characters (i.e. skits and interviews).

The show was great for the fans who like solid wrestling. I enjoyed the show very much.
However, wrestling NEEDS story lines and angles, let me change that, they need GOOD story lines and angles and not a bunch of stupid, useless backstage skits.
The main thing great about the show was the Roster combination, showing more proof they need to end the brand splits and just have ONE brand!

The main thing great about the show was the Roster combination, showing more proof they need to end the brand splits and just have ONE brand! True, but the major problem with that is if you do it wrong, which is pretty much expected from WWE, you pretty much overexpose the characters. If Raw and Smackdown were EXACTLY alike every week, it would piss everyone off. The one good thing about the brand extension is that more people get TV time, and the characters stay relatively fresh, if not the feuds.

I can't even watch the tribute to the troops shows. The American nationalism and the whole "never criticise the military or it's actions" sentiment just sickens me. Maybe it's different for you yanks, since you probably believe all that stuff about it being the greatest country ever (trying hard to avoid getting into a political discussion...) but for me sitting here in Scotland it just seems like cheesy propaganda to me.
But then I've always been suspicious of flag waving types.
