Today is the day! It's Kickoff Day for the 2019 Season of the Indoor Football League!! As the first indoor league to kickoff, I shall take a look at each of the teams that will be playing this year. And I may ripoff Urinatingtree for a little bit of this. ARIZONA RATTLERS 2018 Record: 11-3, Lost in the Intense Conference Championship, 69-68 OT, to the Sioux Falls StormCongratulations, Arizona! You have become the new Evil Empire. Not because you win quite a bit of the time, but because you thought you could bribe a couple teams from breaking their League Affiliation Agreements that they signed already with another league (Bloomington Edge & West Michigan Ironmen. For the record, Bloomington is dead, and West Michigan is on life support). And you helped kill another franchise that was starting to make waves in the sport (Wichita Falls Nighthawks) with the bullshit that you pulled back in 2017. Unfortunately, I see them as the favorites to win the United Bowl this year, as they signed one of the better QBs in the league (Matt Behrendt), and have one of the better backups as well (Verlon Reed). BISMARCK BUCKS 2018 Record: 5-7 in the CIF North Division, lost in the North Conference Semis, 81-51, to the Salina BombersThis will be an interesting year for the Bucks. They went 5-7 in both seasons in the CIF, but made the playoffs in both years. However, they will have to step up their game this year, as the IFL is a far more ravenous league. They did so by going out and acquiring Current IFL Leader in All-Purpose Yards, Mike Tatum. Granted, this will give them very little help, I feel, and they will probably end up 3-11, and possibly fold at the end of the year, unless the ownership can get more funding support for the team. CEDAR RAPIDS RIVER KINGS 2018 Record: 3-11, Missed the PlayoffsThis will also be an interesting year, as the newly branded Cedar Rapids River Kings (formerly the Cedar Rapids Titans) will start with new ownership, as the former owner f***ed off to Orlando, nearly killing the team as well as the indoor soccer team in Cedar Rapids. It looks like the ownership has also brought in a few key ingredients to try and return the team to glory, as they brought back former HC Mark Stoute, who went 41-17 with the team in 4 seasons, making the United Conference Championship every season those 4 years, losing to the Sioux Falls Storm. Will this breathe new live into the franchise? Time will tell. GREEN BAY BLIZZARD 2018 Record: 2-12, Missed the PlayoffsAnother great franchise that has fallen on hard times due to numerous factors. The Green Bay Blizzard had made the playoffs from 2005 to 2012, making the Conference Championship 5 of those years (2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012) and making the Championship game one year (2006 - ArenaCup VII). But since 2012, the team has never been above .500 for the year, and has missed the playoffs for 6 straight years. IOWA BARNSTORMERS 2018 Record: 11-3, United Bowl ChampionsThe Iowa Barnstormers finally reached the top of the mountain in 2018, winning the United Bowl Championship over the Sioux Falls Storm, 42-38, in Des Moines. However, repeating may be a bigger challenge this year, as while 2017 & 2018 IFL Coach of the Year Dixie Wooten will be back, his entire coaching staff pretty much left for the new franchise in Tuscon. Also, they will be without 2018 IFL MVP Drew Powell at quarterback, as he has moved up to the CFL. While a number of their players have returned for the 2018 Season, losing their star QB and a number of defensive players and most of the coaching staff could prove to be detrimental. NEBRASKA DANGER 2018 Record: 4-10, Lost in the United Conference Championship, 48-17, to the Iowa BarnstormersNebraska is another team that has fallen a bit on hard times, but has made the playoffs every season since 2013. But they are far from their glory days of 2013-2015, when they were in the United Bowl those three years. With a new head coach and signing of former Husker QB Tommy Armstrong, the team is looking to rebound and spark new life into the team. QUAD CITY STEAMWHEELERS 2018 Record: 8-4 in the CIF North Division, Lost in the North Conference Semis, 54-46, to the Sioux City BanditsAnother team making the jump from the CIF to the IFL, but this one looks to be a little more on sturdy ground. The Steamwheelers returned last season after an 8-year hiatus due to the af2 folding. Which is ironic, as the original Steamwheelers looked into possibly joining the IFL after the af2 ceased, but did not. This could be the team to watch out for, as they have brought back a number of their players that helped make them a success in their return season. Plus, they have added some new blood into the system, including adding the backup QB of the Sioux Falls Storm from last year, Dillon Turner. The last team to bring in a backup QB from the Storm? The Iowa Barnstormers last year. And they won it all. So........Quad City: 2019 IFL Champions. SAN DIEGO STRIKEFORCE 2018 Record: NA, 2019 Expansion TeamI'm not sure why, but when I see this team, I have the strange urge to shout, "F*** YOU, SPANOS!!" Owned by the same group that owns the Cedar Rapids River Kings, the Strike Force are the new kid on the block, as they begin their first season in the IFL. They had a decent head coach hire in Ameer Ismail, but he left prior to the season starting, so they have a new head coach hired. Usually in this case, if a head coach leaves prior to the season starting and is replaced, it's not a good sign. SIOUX FALLS STORM 2018 Record: 11-3, Lost in the United Bowl, 42-38, to the Iowa BarnstormersThe Storm bring back a number of their players from last year, and bring in a lot of new talent as well. A pair of key departures include WR Mike Tatum to the Bismarck Bucks, as well as QB Dillon Turner to the Quad City Steamwheelers. Lorenzo Brown returns under center for the Storm, which could be a good and bad thing at the same time. Brown in the past couple years has started to show decline in his play ability, and this could be the final season for him at QB. Which, IMHO, would be a nice change. While he has guided the Storm to 4 straight championships, his leadership and abilities have deteriorated, I feel. Hopefully I'm wrong this year, but it could be the same thing, which will lead to 3 simple letters: ABB (Anyone But Brown). TUCSON SUGAR SKULLS 2018 Record: NA, 2019 Expansion TeamAnother new kid on the block, this time another team in Arizona. And this is an interesting one, as one of the owners of the Sugar Skulls, Kevin Guy, also works as the GM and Head Coach of the Arizona Rattlers. So, a bit of a conflict of interest there. But the Sugar Skulls made an impact early on, hiring the Defensive Coordinator from the Barnstormers to be their Head Coach, along with a number of other coaches from Iowa. They also signed a number of players from Iowa as well, so they could be one to look out for as well this season.

The AAF can't make up its mind as to what teams are going to be in the league. The website hasn't even been updated in almost an entire year; whatever updates you can find have to be dug up on the Facebook page.

So, as I was trying to say...
The American Arena League finally updated their website, and released the schedules...
The imbalance is hilarious. Teams like "Burgh" and Peach State are only playing 7 games, while West Virginia and Georgia play 10. Chicago plays only 4! FOUR! And three of them are against the Enforcers, who have confirmed they're playing at Off the Wall this year.
Oh, dear God. The only people worse off than indoor football are indoor soccer, and it was crap like this that's why they got fat slobs in Turlock pretending to be a team in the MASL nowadays.

Congratulations, Cedar Rapids River Kings! You have ascended to the highest plain of existence!! You are officially a LOLCow!!
Not only do you give the San Diego Strike Force their first and possibly only win, you lose to the previously winless Bismarck Bucks. You have given both winless teams their only win of the season.
Everyone had hope this year. They thought that with a new owner that things would change. And with a new name, things would change. Well guess what? You put lipstick on a pig, IT'S STILL A F***ING PIG!!!!
I see this team possibly dying after this year, or moving to Oakland, if the rumors of the current owner wanting to put a team in Oakland are true.

The team changed their name and identity in large part due to the team's previous owner also having had owned the MASL Cedar Rapids Rampage deciding to up and move that team to Orlando (all legal documents say the Rampage folded, but anyone with half a brain knows he moved the damn team and operations to Orlando), and to be blunt, looking at things, they're likely boned. Meanwhile, in the dysfunctional land of the AAL, every team that's played against the semi-pro Reading Raptors has been beaten by Reading. Shows you the quality of said league.

Texas Revolution Fold After 6 1/2 seasonsSeriously, you tried to fund an indoor football team on INDIEGOGO?!! What, was GoFundMe too much of a hassle? This team went downhill after they won the CIF Championship a couple years ago. And the ownership just ran the team into the ground. They moved to Frisco last year, couldn't stay there, and thought they could afford rent at the Practice Facility of the DALLAS COWBOYS. I feel for the players, the fans, and the employees, but not the ownership. Especially when one of the owners was a former IFL Commissioner, who basically told the league to f*** off after moving the team to the CIF after being inducted into the IFL Hall of Fame. F*** you, Benizio. The Football Gods show no mercy.

I'll take your Texas Revolution and raise you two more teams, although they are AAL-related, so they would probably barely even qualify has half a team. The Georgia Doom and New England Bobcats both folded this week.

Through 3 games, YOUR (well, my) Albany Empire are 3-0 in the league, the lone undefeated team. Though it's only been 2 home games, Albany leads the league in attendance, averaging 10,445 for the 2 games. The lowest number is Baltimore bringing in just over 4,300 in week 2. We'll see what Columbus does when they have a home game. The league's other expansion team, Atlantic City, brought in just over 6,000 in their home opener.

So, nothing has come out yet officially, but there are rumblings that the IFL is "investigating" the Arizona Rattlers for abusing the IR system.
Which it's pretty obvious, as two of their running backs have gone on short term IR multiple times during the season, mainly switching in and out.
From what I heard, Coach Guy called Coach Riggs (Sioux Falls Storm HC), absolutely screaming at him, thinking Riggs was the one that turned him in.
It'll be interesting to see if anything comes of it, as Arizona is basically keeping the league afloat.
