Just saw your response in the Carpenter post, TR. I think one of the reasons I enjoyed Prom Night was that I actually forced myself to learn the characters names. Yes. Forced. As in wrote them down so I'd know who I was supposed to be "fearing" for. I've got a "Mind-to-Mouth" type review where I wrote things down during the film, so maybe that helped. When I get it edited up, I'll try and post it because I want to start sharing those...even if it's for my own enjoyment. Anyway, probably too much effort, but it helped some. Also, I appreciated how it didn't act like a typical slasher that introduces so many characters just to knock them off. The fact that the killer was only focused on the main girl and anyone who could keep him from being around her was a nice touch (Only thing I didn't like was the Fodder Bellboy). As a final note....*Shrug* EDIT: The trailer being on Pacific time means I'll see it in the morning. I'll be in bed long before that...the old man at 22 that I am.

Ha, The Lawnmower Man is playing on SyFy right now and it really makes me wonder what the producers were thinking when they originally called this a Stephen King adaption. I mean WTF, people are shooting a cyborg monkey right now.

Then had to sue again when they stuck his name on the video release after already losing the first case. I believe the judge ended up ruling that New Line had to pay him a set amount PER DAY ($10,000 sticks in my head for some reason) until they removed his name. ...I may have randomly wrote about this for a college "journal" entry.

The funny thing is, the Lawnmower Man short story is way more interesting than the entire Lawnmower Man movie

My favorite bit of Lawnmower Man nitpicky idiocy is when Job takes Random Love Interest into the laboratory to show her the virtual reality world for absolutely no reason and no explanation given as to how they got past all of the lab's security staff.

I can see it's going to be a fun time here on the forums when the Elm street remake comes out Could be. Zombie gets a lot of crap for his version of Halloween (and in many cases rightfully so) but I don't recall too much heat on Marcus Nipsel after his Friday the 13th remake. The Friday the 13th redo has been the only new big horror franchise remake (starting from the TCM remake) that I actually liked. We have to wait and see how this goes, but I'm going to give it a chance. Could be famous last words though, right? Also I was thinking about Halloween 3D over the weekend. Todd Fuller is writing the screenplay. Todd previously has also written Jason X and co-wrote My Bloody Valentine 3D. Both those films are very fun, somewhat ironic takes on their previous entries. I know Jason X gets a lot of crap, but I enjoyed it and feel if you can get over the Jason in Space plot it's a cool little ride. Todd is a nice guy who actually along with Noel Cunningham and Jim Issacs answered questions on the old Friday the 13th films forum before it went kaboom. So this brings me around to Halloween 3D. As I previously said Todd makes enjoyable, fun horror films. I'm unfortunately not familiar with his other work, but the Halloween series generally has a more serious tone. So I'm curious if Todd is going to do a more ironic take on Michael Myers or venture more into a darker universe. I'm not sure 3D helps matters, but I've been wrong before.

I didn't mind the F13 remake becase they pretty much kept it Jason. Now, how good the movie was is up for debate, but as far as remakes go they did a good job. Besides, I see all these horror movies as "Re-Starts" more so than "Remakes". It's basically their attempt to reboot the franchise more so than remake one particular movie.

I have a sneaky suspicion that the NoES redo will have the same "meh" effect on me that the TCM and Friday ones did. Nothing particularly wrong per say, but just nothing really right at the same time, leading to a generally forgettable film.
Something about the way they're filmed, or the characters or the script is just so.... bland.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy... That trailer did absolutely NOTHING for me. I'm know I've been an outspoken critic of this film since it was announced, but honestly, my problems with this go well beyond the recasting of the Freddy role. That trailer has Michael Bay's fingerprints all over it, and I wouldn't be surprised if the movie is more of the same. The little homages to the first film (Nancy in the bath, Tina's death) were cool, but that's about all I got out of it. I was accused of jumping the gun when I made a judgment call based on the first picture of Haley as Freddy, and I'll probably be accused again here, but I just feel as though I'm slowly but surely being proven right as more and more media comes out of the woodwork.

Believe it or not, I'm going to concur with a lot of what you said, Guy. I can imagine the first few scenes in the movie being those bits we see in the trailer's opening, complete with shaki-cam and a whole bunch of loud noises, and...I don't know, it seems to me that a lesson that a lot of horror filmmakers DESPERATELY need to learn is that calming the f*** down for a few moments is infinitely creepier than wall-to-wall action and screaming, which is by and large what the Platinum Dunes crew is notorious for delivering. Haley no doubt will be awesome, since he has been amazing in everything I've seen him in, but the group of kids just scream "I'll be apathetic to this group in about six months." Even moreso than the vanilla wafers in the original NOES. ;D I actually had to break one of my own rules to even click on that trailer, btw. While I USED to be a big-time upcoming movie junkie (i.e., watch every trailer the day it's released, read set reports and scripts and whathaveyou), I quit doing that a couple years back when The Dark Knight was going to be released. After listening to my idiot former friend yack nonstop about EVERY goddamn image from the set and story note from Bay's Transformers I essentially said "man, I don't want to be this guy," and made the conscious decision not to watch any trailers or read any story notes for TDR and absolutely loved it because I was totally surprised by all of it, and took that lesson forward. I'll watch it. I may be a weirdo but I love these kinds of weird disturbing movies. Oh yeah, definitely. I love disturbing, sick movies as well. They're obviously not movies that I can watch over and over, but you need movies that absolutely knock the hell out of you every once in a while.

Human Centipede sounds incredibly f***ed up (again, I can't watch video because I live in 1996 over here...those Spice Girls sure are hot, by the way). I may have to check it out. I'm intrigued.

So I was doing my grocery shopping this week and noticed that there's Christmas stuff for sale already! Selection boxes, seasonal candy, decorations the lot! A whole isle of the stuff. meanwhile there is a tiny little corner for Halloween stuff.
I really don't like how Halloween is being pushed further and further into the backburner in favour of promoting Christmas earlier. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas but wait til Halloween is over first!
