I know most people on here are still pretty young as am I but comparing this decade to the last one I've notice that there are quite a few differences.
One that I can think of is that most playground equipment is nothing but safe metal and plastic now. When I was a little kid I remembered there being a lot more wooden playground equipment. I noticed this because at my old pre school and elementary school they took out the wooden equipment and replaced it with plastic and metal.
At my old elementary school there was a huge slide that they wouldn't let anyone under third grade go on also.
Also i don't really remember the rubber ground soft stuff all that much. I remember a lot of sand, mulch, and rocks though.
Also before cell phones got popular there were a lot more pay phones.

Things were definitely different when I was younger for one thing I was shorter.

Yeah, they playground was made of oak and steel. If the tire swing broke, the farmer brought an old tire by to fix with, with big rusty bolts and studs still in the tires. If someone got hurt, f*** him, more time on the playground for everyone else.
The thought a bike helmet never occurred to anyone in my family.
Everybody definitely did not get a trophy.
If I acted out in public.....I was corrected. And not with a timeout. With a swat or some other type of actual corrective means.
Most of us boys still have scars and bruises from full contact floor hockey with the teachers. One of whom only had one leg.....he had a wooden stick in one hand and a steel crutch in the other, he used both on you. The principal would be out with us at noon playing tackle football. You haven't seen nothing like your principal in his suit and dress shoes tackling a 12 year old.

I just turned 30 a week ago. I have three decades worth of change I could rant about. I'll just start by saying Transformers were made out of better material and easier to transform when I was a child.

I remember people wore more neon, that cable was a bigger deal to have, and that gameboys the size of a brick were kickass. ;D
Definitely more casual homophobia, on the negative side.

My mustache wasn't nearly as full. I sure as hell had a smoother chest, and I also couldn't probably pop a balloon a couple hours after I've shaved.

There was no "text speak" (which I feel is completely ruining the standard of spelling these days).

Porn was much harder to come by when I was a kid, I had to make do with page 3, kids today have access to so much they have favourite genres.
A similar thing with videogames, no gamefaqs for me.

I would say cap pistols. Then cap pistols used paper strips with usually hundreds of shots per paper. You could put one strip of paper in and it would be a long time before you needed to reload. Now they have those plastic rings that each have about 8 shots requiring you to reload often and when you buy them you may get 8 rings in a pack for the same price you could get 300 with the strips.
Someone mentioned the McDonalds Playground. Back when I was a kid the McDonalds Playground was in a pit like area. There was a small enclosed slide going down as well as stairs. There were also multiple things in the playground.. Now it is just a generic plastic Playplace. In fact quite a few McDonalds around here no longer have any type of playground. Also Burger King and Hardees also used to have playgrounds but now there is only one Burger King around here that has any type of playground.
The playgrounds around here are for the most part generic. However within the last 15 years several of the outlying communities have replaced generic slide monkey bars and swing type playgrounds with giant wooden ones.

I remember people wore more neon, that cable was a bigger deal to have, and that gameboys the size of a brick were kickass. ;D Definitely more casual homophobia, on the negative side. Ah the old gameboys, remember how any contact with natural light would cause the screne to wash out while you were in the middle of playing Excite Bike? Hell, things have changed a ton, and that's mainly why I feel old at 32. Playgrounds were mostly metal with some wooden stuff, and if you fell off, say, the monkey bars, you landed on asphault. I remember going into music stores growing up and the center of the store, was all records with the tapes lining the walls. Styrofoam containers at fast food restaurants. If you got hurt as a kid, the first thing you heard was "walk it off". I remember Saturdays when Soul Train was my cue to go outside and play. While I'll add to Bradley's comment on homophobia being more rampant, must prejudice (even in the 80's) was as well, and that's one change I'm glad we've seen. Sadly at the same time, while social awareness has gone up, people taking responsibility for their own actions has gone way down.

When I was a kid the streets used to be filled with boys and girls riding bikes and laughing. Now they're filled with criminals and drunks

If you had cable, you used to have to pay extra for the Disney Channel.

Yeah, we had mulch all over the playground. Fall off the swing? LAND IN MULCH. All the equipment was pretty much medal and looked like it was all stock pile made in the 50's and 60's. Then again, our playground was overcrowded. Being with the GEEKS, NERDS and POINDEXTERS, eight of us would climb under the two picnic tables we had and play Star Trek, Star Wars or Star Fox. While the cool kids played basketball, four square, the girls hogged the swings and slides and the big medal spider. Although, I'd usually run up on the little slide backwards. Occassionally the medium. Once the big one because someone bet me a dollar I couldn't without grabbing the sides. (I was Shelton Benjamin before Shelton Benjamin was cool.)
School in general was a lot different. Despite everyone saying things were different when they went to school... I graduated in the summer of 2001. By the time school started that next September, things got A LOT different. Not to get political, but a friend actually got kicked out for a bomb threat in 2000. He got in no legal trouble. I mean, the cops talked to him for a little bit and were involved more for scare, but the hearing was through the school and getting kicked out was it for punishment.
Lemme see... definitely more pay phones.
More post office boxes too (they removed a bunch in my town a year or so after I moved here which was '05. I just walk a mile to the post office now, because I can't be bothered to find which one is around closer.)
When I was younger, it was definitely okay to spank a kid, even in public.
If you talked enough crap, someone beat you up and that was the end of it.
