What the hell is "Christmas Number 1" and why does it matter? Is somebody sitting all you Brits down, tying you up, and forcing you to listen to this "number 1" song on loop for 24 hours or something? The Queen has to sing the Christmas #1 during her speech to the nation on Christmas afternoon... I'm buying KitNo, though I'd rather it was Darling Nikki.

If people just wanted it to get the Christmas Number One then I would be fine with that. But seeing as the intention is just for it to beat the X-Factor Winner's song I find this pretty petty.
I didn't use to care about the X-Factor. Last year was the first time I ever watched a whole episode, and after I did I ended up watching the whole series. There were some pretty awful performances, but then there were some pretty damn amazing performances as well. Thing is, the show gets dismissed by plenty of people, the contestants get slagged off and Simon Cowell gets all this flack. But the contestants work their behinds off, as does Simon Cowell.
I don't like mainstream pop music really. I mean, I'll hum along to a song on the radio but I won't actively seek it out to listen to. But the thing is, it's pretty much the most popular type of music here in the UK, and I guess in America. And mainstream pop is generic. Lot's of people don't like that. Lot's of people think it's a insult to music etc, etc, etc. Music can be meaningful, thoughtful, intense, beautiful, haunting, hilarious and so on. It can also be bland with a catchy beat. That's what most people want; bland with a catchy beat. That's what Simon Cowell mainly produces, and what the X-Factor winners go on to do. Simon Cowell works his ass off and is very successful. And lots of people don't like him because his artists are everywhere and they don't like the music. He's doing his job and giving a lot of people what they want. He's not telling them what they want despite what many people think.
I find this plan stupid. This quote from Simon Cowell is the truth: "(RATM) is aimed at me. It's stupid. If I don't get a Christmas No1, it doesn't change my life... but it does for the finalists."

In my opinion, Rage Against the Machine has more talent than those three people remaining.

f*** X-Factor, only reason to watch it is to stare at Cheryl Cole's goodies. So it's cool in a way if a song like this that's heavy, grooves, and is defiant blows the bland, manufactured, corporate shite away. But then again the latter is what the pop chart is all about so it's not exactly good credibility for a band that's supposed to be the antithesis to that. I'd rather hear new Rage material than care about this.

I don't like RATM at all, they really annoy me even though I liked them as a kid. If only the Facebook group was formed for Rolf Harris's single

Currently on the iTunes chart it's number 2, behind the x-factor song.
On play.com it's at number 1(album version) and number 3 (radio edit i assume) in their download chart, with the x factor at number 2.
I've bought it twice so far, under a quid each time. I just see it as a bit of fun really, I love rage and to see them first, or even second at crimbo would be great. I've nothing against the x factor guy, he has a good voice, but its not for me

Aparently RATM are leading so far but the X Factor CD doesn't go on sale until tomorrow and I expect it to take the lead and probably win fairly easily. And I am so sick of people on Facebook going on about this crusade or whatever RATM are on a Sony subsidary record label so all these people who are doing it because they hate Simon Cowell and the X Factor are still putting money in his pocket.

It's not about the money, everyone knows Simon Cowell doesn't need it.

I just want a Christmas Song to be number one on christmas week, why can't he release his x-factor finalist songs in March or something when people don't care.

I see it as a big f*** you to Simon Cowell who is nothing but a oxygen thief and a arrogant tool.
He has the brass neck to call the RATM campain "stupid" this coming from a guy who once claimed in a interview his talent shows like X Factor,American Idol etc. brought Democracy to countries in the middle east.

RATM still lead, with an increased margin. Although Joe's CD came out today, bookmakers have now installed RATM as the favourites for Christmas #1.

Bought it, just worried this will still go Cowells way. The goons that buy the pop factor single will probably just buy more of them to keep Rage out. COWELL! *shakes fist*

And considering that yesterday Joe was 1/8 and today he's 11/10, thats a hell of a price change in a day. RATM into as short as 8/13 in places from 5/1 yesterday morning.

Why do people have a problem with the Pop Idol thing? The top area of the charts has always been home to mountains of middle of the road music - it's comforting to people, and they like the sound. Having an issue with that is like insisting that everyone J.G. Ballard over Stephanie Meyer, or Chris Morris' Jaaaaam over Mr Family - sure, one is made with possibly more care and thoughts about artistic validity, but it's just not going to tickle everyone's artistic tastebuds.
