I'm watching it right now with my mom, and I just can't get into it. I got it for Christmas in a game of Dirty Santa. Everyone that I know thought it was the greatest movie ever, but I think it's not that great of a film. There is some funny parts in the movie, but most of it's meh. Also Mike Tyson isn't that great of an actor. Although, I marked when he made a cameo.

Funniest movie of the year, though I'll agree it was nowhere close to the greatest film ever; so maybe not living up to the hype, but still a hilarious flick.
Tyson's NOT an actor, so him not being good at it isn't that big a surprise; he did what could be expected of him. The Phil Collins shit was gold.

Its been nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Picture Musical or Comedy. Fixed. It's up against 500 days of summer, It's Complicated, Julie & Julia and Nine...so it probably ain't gonna win.

It was a hell of a lot better than half of Julie and Julia, and I'm not sure how that CGI sackboy movie got nominated, but its not going to win. Still, no way it will beat 500.

i feel for anyone watching it for the first time now, they give away most of the shocking laughs in the trailers for the dvd. so its hard to get that shock value that most of us had in the movie theatres i thought it was a great movie though with some of the best lines from a movie this decade

I couldn't disagree more. The Hangover was a breath of fresh air... finally, an ADULT comedy that wasn't afraid to get away from the "Superbad" style of teen comedy. (Don't get me wrong, I loved Superbad).
I can watch and hear the "paging doctor faggot" line 1000 times in a row and still laugh... I'm laughing now, just thinking about it. The comedy timing in the Hangover is some of the best in a long long while.

The comedy timing in the Hangover is some of the best in a long long while. I would totally not put Superbad in the teen comedy genre. I would put that in the new style Judd Apatow comedy movie that got real big this decade starting with 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up. The things that makes movies like The Hangover, Superbad, and Pinapple Express great is the comic timing. It is spot on. Comedy movies are starting to move away from physical three stooges shtick that Jim Carrey kept going in the 90s and going towards more obscure and original comic timing. Seth Rogan gets a lot of hate for no reason but he honestly is one of the best at comic timing. The only movie I didn't think he did that great in was Funny People but I think that was more of the writer's fault.

I rented The Hangover and loved it. I'm a fan of Zack G, though, from his comedy specials. I feel like I should note I went in hearing a ton of hype for it, but not a ton about the plot (I saw the trailers, that was about it.) and just thought it was really great. Was it perfect or for everyone? Hardly, but comedy rarely is.
One of the things I really liked is the dialogue seemed written (and probably ad-libbed to a degree) to seem real. I'm personally not much of a fan of re-written, overly thought-out and unrealistic dialogue exchanges in comedies. I thought Hangover covered the dialogue exchange very well which made the unbelievable series of events that happened to them seem more believable. Plus, everyone seemed really in touch with their characters.

I loved the movie, and watched it on DVD last night, and while it's still hilarious...I didn't laugh as much. It's one of those movies that probably gets less funny the more you watch it. I can't say the same for the 40 Year Old Virgin.

My favourite film of the year. Not the best film (that's District 9) but my favourite.

I can't say the same for the 40 Year Old Virgin. How is it that someone has the EXACT same opinion on a movie as me? Haha right on man. I love the 40 Year Old Virgin and I've seen it at least 10 times, but watching The Hangover the second time got far fewer laughs from me. I still laugh when Black Doug gets in the movie though.

It has a few laughs, but it's not what I would call a "smart comedy." Most of the dialogue is just a collection of one-liners that have no attachment to the plot whatsoever. It seemed very comparable to the screenplays I've had the displeasure of reading through during my college screenwriting classes. Lots of Kevin Smith wannabes thinking they can create something genuine by creating gross-out dialogue and insults between characters that ultimately serves no purpose.
Also the idea in general doesn't strike me as anything all that original. I've probably seen three to four student productions with basically the exact plot (guys wake up hungover, house is trashed, can't remember what they did the night before). I guess I expected something better from Todd Phillips (considering I found Old School to be amazing). Then again, I might just be getting too old for these type of movies.
I will give credit where credit is due, though, and say that Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis carried the film with their performances. Without those two, I would probably consider this to be one of the worst movies ever made (on par with American Pie: Book of Love). Bradley Cooper and the guy who played Doug could have been better casted.

I liked it. I didn't find it hilarious but I could see the reason why people thought it was hilarious and it's a good "buddy and oh my god I can totally relate to that" movie.
