I haven't really liked many sitcoms this decade (at least not compared to the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s), but what would you say would be the sitcom that best represents the 2000s. I would think "Scrubs" since its pretty contained within the decade (started in 2001 and will probably end in 2010).
As far as my personal favorite goes, I think Titus and to a lesser extent Malcolm in the Middle were pretty good. Shame Titus got canceled so quickly.

For my personal tastes, The Big Bang Theory is the absolute best sitcom of the decade. It feels completely fresh and not like a twist on a concept that's already been done several times.

The Office (BBC version) is not only the best sitcom of the 00s in my opinion, but a contender for the best sitcom of all time.
Right behind it are Arrested Development and Curb Your Enthusiasm. I agree that Scrubs is up there too.

if it's going to be ones confined to this decade, Scrubs and Malcolm in the Middle are the only American ones I can think of.

The Office Two and a Half Men Big Bang Theory The War at Home (had a CRIMINALLY short run, but it was great) That '70s Show (started in '98, but had a good run through the '00s, as did "Friends") George Lopez Show (vastly overlooked & underrated)

Yeah, I don't really like it, but Curb your Enthusiam wins the critical and commerical hit award. Arrested Development may be a funnier show, but if only four million people know that, what's the point?

Arrested Development may be a funnier show, but if only four million people know that, what's the point? point is that it was possibly the funniest sitcom this decade and only lasted 3 seasons. One of the best shows ever too bad it got cancelled so quick by Fox

This thread begins and ends with one show (in my opinion):
30 ROCK
When I rank the greatest TV sitcoms of all-time, I agree with another poster above that this decade hadn't offered any contenders to sit alongside the all-time greats. However, in the latter part of this decade, 30 Rock has already done an amazing job and is what I'd consider one of the top 10 sitcoms ever made (and not even at the 9 or 10 spot of that Top 10 either).
I do like (heck, I actually LOVE them) a number of the shows mentioned by others. But I draw the line between shows I'm a "fanboy" of and shows that actually stand up as "GREAT." 30 Rock is THE sitcom of the 00s, and some of the mentions like "That's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" just make me shake my head. Yes, I love that show, but it doesn't hold a candle to the brilliance, symmetry, and overall execution of a show like 30 Rock.
(edit) example: The Cosby Show is one of those UNDOUBTEDLY in the top 10 sitcoms of all-time. I probably enjoy watching mindless repeats of Scrubs and That's Always Sunny in Philadelphia more often than not than getting pumped up for a 3-hour set of Cosby Show episodes, but I know that's probably because I don't have to "work" nearly as hard or be anywhere near as emotionally involved in those shows as I would with Cosby Show. Some of what I consider "greats" sort of a have time and place because of the depth of execution. I just think some responses to shows are knee-jerk reactions (myself included--yes, I have those knee-jerk reactions too), but I try to take a step back and keep things in proper perspective in the grand scheme of "all-time greatness."
The BBC Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm are good considerations for top billing as well perhaps. Sex and City WOULD also be up for consideration, but I don' think Sex and the City "belongs" to this decade OR the 90s exclusively. But yes, if I could pigeon-hole Sex and the City exclusively to this decade, then I'd put it up there for consideration as decade-best.
