With a decade of animation over with, what is your opinion on the one animated show that was the most successful this decade?
In my opinion, it's Family Guy.
Now, whether you're for the series, or against it, you have to admit it's become a success. Perhaps the only major cartoon to be canceled, become a smash hit through reruns, and eventually be brought back on the same network that canned them in the first place.
One can also say it's this generation's Simpsons, and while that does hurt me to type, it is true to an extent. both it's own material, and any pop culture jokes are heavilly referenced. It's a merchandising success, especially with strong DVD sales. It's also created it's own spinoff the Cleveland Show.
And yes, it suffers from many gags that either work or don't. They've tried in recent seasons to be more offensive, and Seth has tried too hard to throw his Liberal agenda into the series. But even with all that, it still gets solid ratings, a loyal fanbase, and doesn't look to be leaving any time soon.
In those aspects if i were to consider one cartoon series worthy of being called the cartoon of the decade, Family Guy would be the one i'd pick.

I don't even like Family Guy, but I have to agree with you. Its popularity is remarkably durable. Close second is my personal fanboy pick, Futurama.

From a quality standpoint, I'm inclined to say Avatar: The Last Airbender. It's not quite as mainstream as Family Guy, but it had tons of success of its own and is infinitely better. Plus, how many other cartoons get a movie adaptation at a $100 million budget in a planned $300 million trilogy?

Based on popularity, Family Guy is a clear winner. Based on merit, however, the prize has to go to Futurama. Started with a pilot episode set December 31, 1999. Canceled too soon, but ended the decade as a cult syndication hit leading to a comeback. Funnier than the better known show by its creator as The Simpsons has declined. More accessible than South Park, better written, more original, and more light-hearted and refreshing than Family Guy, and never succumbed to preachiness, self-absorption, and manufactured "edginess" like both FG and SP do on a fairly regular basis.

On success, Family Guy's sort of a no contest. It definitely had way more success than any other cartoon this decade.
As far as personal favorite goes, I'll have to give it to Futurama, The Boondocks, or Megas XLR.

1) Spongebob. It's one of my favourite cartoons of all time. The later seasons don't quite hold up, but the first four were absolute genius and still make me laugh amazingly hard to this day, and I quote it all the time.
2) Futurama. Do I even need to explain this one? It's just a f***ing brilliant show, and the movies were great too.
3) Invader Zim - Yeah, I know all the mallgoths flock to it like sheep, but that doesn't mean it's not absolutely hilarious in every way. It was cancelled entirely too soon, and was just so damned hilarious. Every character was brilliant.
4) The Venture Bros. - Maybe an unorthodox pick? I don't really care, I think this show is so goddamned great. The characters are awesome, the writing is stellar, and it's just amazingly funny.
5) The Fairly Oddparents - Another really awesome one that Nick turned out in the early 2000s and is still going really strong. While I really dislike the addition of Poof...the writing has surprisingly not really gone downhill. There have been so many episodes that they're pretty much retreading the same plots now...but it's still funny to me.
6) Metalocalypse - Yeah, I fell in love with this show the second it debuted. I was excited for it less because of the concept and more because I loved Brendon Small due to Home Movies being stellar...and Metalocalypse actually ended up being better. Still impressed with this show. Not to mention the music is awesomely catchy. It's not the best melodeath in the world, but it's pretty damned great.
7) Sealab 2021 - Yeah I know, a lot of Adult Swim shows here, but oh well, they started out the decade insanely strong. Hell, I still think they're really good, just not quite as good as they were at first. Either way, Sealab was hilarious. Another show that's just amazingly quotable and unfortunately seems to have been largely forgotten and not really talked about much these days.
8) Aqua Teen Hunger Force - It might have gone fairly downhill in the later seasons, but that doesn't stop the earlier stuff from being some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen. So f***ing funny.
9) Chowder - Honestly I don't have as much experience with this show as I do with any of the others...but of the 5 or 6 episodes that I've seen, that's honestly enough for me to say that this show is just absolutely awesome. I REALLY need to catch more of it, because I absolutely f***ing love it.
10) Clone High - Now HERE'S a show that more people need to know about and remember. I think of all the animation MTV ever put out, this is my favourite. It was consistently funny and worked in some good legitimate drama too, without being hokey or cheesy. Really just an excellent show with an awesomely weird concept and just...yeah. Everyone should go out and watch this now.
I have other favourites from this decade, but I think those were the best of the best.

The Venture Bros. hands down. With all the characters and their relationships with each other and the extended universe and the nods to old-school cartoons and pop culture references done right, it's pretty much the complete package.

I have to replace Chowder with Home Movies because I love it and I think along with Clone HIgh, is one of my favorites I think should be adored by all. Other than that, great list. I might take out Zim for Family guy based on how insanely popular it was. Again, Clone High....awesome.
