What was the first sitcom show to do this? Malcolm in the Middle?

Goes back way before Malcom.
The Australian show 'Frontline' was a comedy without an audience and that started in 1994. But I'm sure it goes back even further then that.
Probably something from the U.K.
Did 'Police Squad!' have a Laugh Track?... I have a feeling it did not.

No Police Squad definitely did not have a laugh track.
I love that frozen end credit bit. So many times has that been ripped off.

I was thinking more a U.S. sitcom. I'm just not sure which U.S. one was the first to do it. I figured that it had already been done in UK since UK shows use to have more low budget stuff.

Not sure if you would consider this so much a sitcom, but M*A*S*H only had the laugh track for the earlier episodes, and the laugh track has been taken out of the DVD versions of those episodes I believe, and some rebroadcasts(I think just about everyone involved hated that they had to use one).

UK never had a laugh Track for MASH
I personally think live audiences kinda ruin the show kayfabe at point like in Married with Children, for example, the OTT reactions whenever Al came in the door and you see him visibly have to pause till it quietens down before continuing, it ruins the flow

The Flintstones? Sadly enough, I think it had a laugh track. Never understood why anyone thought that a laugh track is really that necessary. How many comedic movies over time has bothered to use them?
