To me the concept of death in media has more or less become a dead concept- many characters get killed just as a cheap sales gimmick only to come back, what a couple of months later- e.g Captain America got killed off by being shot, everyone makes a big fuss he got replaced by Bucky (an interesting concept) only to get resurrected like what 2 yrs later in a ridiculous cocamame plot about the bullet unsticking him in time. Now he's back but is apparently gonna let Bucky keep the mantle. Since he's not gonna be Cap for awhile couldnt they have at least let him stay dead till then? It makes the death seem more impactful. Ditto Bruce Waynew as Batman. We also see this in games like Tekken, where they kill off people- Baek, Bruce, Lee etc only to return them as middle age fighters who'd be way past their fighting prime (Wang 100 yrs old? come on). Why not let em stay dead and relace em with younger characters, i worked in Tekken 3. So in light of this what do u think is the way death should be handled in media?-
dead means dead- no coming back at all (some companies still do this e.g Erik Larsen i think)
means death for a fixed amount of time- they can return, but we will have a period of time before it can happen- say 5 yrs (one time Marvel had a period when no dead characters could return early 2000's i think)
return them whenever you want.- as we see now

I think it depends. Like, a non-supernatural character dying in a drama should stay dead, but a character dying just for a gag in a comedy or something should be allowed to return when neccesary.

In fiction wise, if they can come up with a reasonable and plausible reason for them to return, I don't have a problem with it. Most often, it is just a cheap sales gimmick, which does cheapen it.
The only time I'm completely against resurrecting a character is when the character gets a certain type of death, when it fits so well with a character that it did more for the character than anything they did while they were alive. Like the Executioner in Thor.
