A couple weeks ago it was my Grandmother's birthday and she is a huge Beatles fan, so my parents, my grandfather and I all got her the remastered Beatles boxset. She almost cried. And I got to copy all of them to my Zune

I'm usually not that good at picking out gifts.
I did get my nephew two Lego sets at my local Salvation Army. They were both around ten years old and still sealed. One was for his b-day, one was for Christmas. He loves shopping at thrift stores and getting stuff cheap like I do, so he enjoyed them even more when I told him how I found them.
I got my other nephew a Bob the Builder three pack set at Wal-Mart one year. My grandmother said he told her it was his favorite gift he got that year, which was the year he got two bicycles (his brother got three since I bought him one not knowing... again, Salvation Army find.)
My Salvation Army rocks in general, I've gotten quite a few things for other people just as random gifts. I found my bro a Sublime t-shirt in great shape and they're his favorite band. I found my sister this weird Stark Trek TNG lamp that looks like a big snow globe basically with the ship inside. I also found her one of the Rhino Monkees tapes, still sealed, there. She had one my dad ordered her for Christmas one year. I found her another in great shape at a yardsale. I also found my mom three blue willow pieces for her collection at a rummage sale.

A couple weeks ago when the MJ fan club I'm a part of set up a Facebook group to get members and other MJ fans to buy a gift and send it to Great Ormond Street. It didn't cost me much but we all did a wonderful thing. Over 350 people joined this group so on the 18th December 350 presents all arrived at Great Ormond Street for the kids which was just amazing.

A couple years ago I put together a scrap book for my Mom with photos of all the pets she's had throughout the years (she's a pet lover, so she's had a lot). She was on the verge of tears as she looked through it and saw photos that she hadn't seen in ages.

I gave my friend a bubble machine for her birthday last month. Wish I had kept it.
I like bubbles.

Me and my sister gave my 10 year old cousin a membership to the Mets fan club. He was ecstatic.

Being able to give Christmas gifts to inner city children in person was a great experience. I don't remember the exact gifts, but I will always remember the happy looks on their faces.

This year, I commissioned a picture for a friend of mine depicting a number of original characters of his celebrating Christmas. In addition, I wrote a pair of stories involving his characters to go with it.

I got engaged 3 years ago on christmas eve. I considered the ring to be a christmas present, too.
Also, I regularly give out autographed 8x10 photos of myself in fancy frames.
The photos are my favorite.

I was going to give a great gift one year but I was beat to the punch. It was about 3 years ago and the computer my family had was dead. So I decided that I was going to get a computer for the whole family.
I got it about a week before the big day. Then about a 2 days later I'm walking through my parent's house and there sits a box with a new computer in it. My parents had decided to get a new that year, so I had to scramble to get everyone new presents. So I got a great gift that year because the computer I had was getting on in age.

It's not always the cost of the gift, I have found. I've given some things that weren't that expensive, but oh my did the recipient enjoy them. I gave the Blade Trilogy and Star Trek on DVD to a friend of mine who has had a couple of shitty years this past Christmas, and she did the little girly squeal of delight and the pee pee dance.

This year I gave my sister a personalized Muppet Whatnot also I got my Grandpa the complete Far Side... which in hindsight probably wasn't a good idea because of how heavy the books are... but still!
