I have a big screen TV that I got for my birthday/Christmas from Dad. It's a pretty badass TV, and I kinda wanna upgrade from my PS2. I'm going to keep it, but I figured I should move into the next gen of consoles as well.
I've been trying to figure out which one to get. My cousin and some of our friends tell me I should get the XBox 360, as they all have it. But I still have some feeling of loyalty to Playstation.
Both systems have games on them that I would play. That's not a real big issue.
So, help me out here, Wrestlecrap. Give me your opinions and some facts that would help sway me to either side of the Force.

go on a review site, look at the best games on each system.
Are you more of a fan on the "online experience"? Then maybe the 360 is your system.
More of a fan of an all-purpose media machine? Maybe the PS3 is for you.
Really depends on what you want.

I find the PS3 more reliable (I have gone through 3 RRODs and it has soured me on the 360s reliability) and, it's easier to pick up and play since there are no major changes in the controller. Add in free wireless where it will cost you $99 for a 360 adapter, it doubling as a BluRay player, free online and, free Netflix streaming it seems like a better deal on the PS3.

I had a 3rd party program that did it, but it was pretty poor quality. They literally picked my favorite feature from Live and brought it over to PSN

The PS3 is the better overall deal, HOWEVER, the 360 has the bigger library, and I'm not just talking games, but other media as well.
Plus, Xbox Live feels more like a community than PSN.
Basically, if you loved playing online last console generation, 360 is the way to go. Hell, if you love games in general, 360 is the way to go. It simply has more games right now.
However, if you are one that likes to look to the future, the PS3 has a better future line up.
Personally, you can't go wrong, either way.

The RROD and a Blu-Ray player pushed me towards the PS3.
As well as the PSN being free although it's not as impressive as XBox Live.

I personally prefer the 360, it has more games that are in line with my tastes, but really, you can't go wrong with either at this point.

Also, they fixed the RROD, guys. Yeah people still RROD, but all of those consoles were made before September 2008. Any 360 made after September 2008 has pretty much a 0 percent chance of RROD.

Seeing as how you've already stated that you are a PS2 owner, I have to advise going for the PS3. If you're ever feeling nostalgiac and want to go back to playing some of your old PS2 games, a PS3 with backwards compatibility is the machine for you. Like others have said, the PS3 controller is virtually unchanged from the PS2 version...while if you've never owned an X-Box, the control scheme might seem alien to you (it's not bad at all, but it does take some getting used to).
As far as online play goes, PS3 is free...and I haven't seen any difference between my nephew slaughtering the godless hordes on PS3, and my friend slaughtering the godless hordes on X-box 360...both have lots of cussing and stuff like that.
I know, I know, I'm a total PS3 mark, and while I do give it thumbs up, I'll be honest and frank...if you decide on the X-Box 360, you'll have still made a great choice.

There's one thing that bothers me about the PS3. I read somewhere that there's no way to take out the batteries in the PS3 controller. I would obviously get the charger stand for it, but I read that if they DIE die, then there's no way to take out the battery. You have to get a new controller.

You don't really need the charger stand. They recharge through USB ports, you you can plug the controller into any of them. I don't know how long the 360 controllers last, but the PS3 ones have a good life-span, from my experience. I haven't had to replace them.

If you use a wired 360 controller, however, they last until you break the somabitch.
