I think Stiker's commentary was well suited for ECW. He had a lot of cool, insider references and was a smart commentator. But on Smackdown he's getting obnoxious. The lame made up nicknames for stars. Calling Ziggler the Blond Braggart? Jericho the Mental Mastermind? Calling Undertaker the Dark Terminator, the Minister of the Night, the Last Outlaw? This is where I lost it.
I know commentators in the past have coined names like the Cerebral Assasin, the Excellence of Execution, etc.
But Striker's seem so forced and lame.
Agree/disagree?

He's even putting Mickie James in the same lofty heights as Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson with the MJ moniker.

Those done sound as bad as JR tried to get "the monarch of the mat" over as HHH's nickname a few years back. I remember him saying that a few times.

I'm not bothered by it. He's being creative and fresh. It's better to hear a slew of different nicknames than the same one repeated ad nauseam.

Maybe it's just me, but I've always thought Striker/Matthews clicked much better on commentary together than Striker/Grisham. They just don't seem to compliment each other very well, and the banter feels forced.

Mental Mastermind is a pretty good nickname. A little redundant though.

I think he's sounds absolutely the same as in ECW. He does, but it works for ECW, because in general, the wrestlers in ECW aren't nearly as established or over as the Smackdown guys are. And I'm not saying that you don't want the ECW guys to be just as established, but that it just seems a little bit ridiculous to start throwing nicknames against the wall for guys who've already been deeply established, like UT, Jericho, or Big Dave.

It annoys me when he tries to give some background info on the guys, to sell them, he'll just make stuff up which is so obviously total crap. Like a couple weeks ago he said some pish about John Morrison taking the IC title global, as if Bret & Davey didn't headline at Wembley for the effing thing.
It ends up when he does come up with something insightful and interesting it's really hard to invest any effort into believing it. I accept that this is wrestling and everyone's a worker, but there has to be some degree of believeability, which Striker (or the person feeding him his lines) doesn't get.

He was doing the same on ECW for the last few months. He would always introduce Christian as "The Flashpoint, The Shining Light", etc.

Would you rather him call the Undertaker "THE GREATEST PURE STRIKER IN THE HISTORY OF SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT!"?

It just seems too canned. Like he sat around all week coming up with lame nicknames using aliteration and writing them on paper so he could toss them out during the matches.
A good announcer should seem like he is talking about what he is seeing, not trying to throw in too many cute nicknames and references.
