It is obvious he wouldn't have had to retire due to his back injury. What would have happened had he not been hurt?

It is obvious he wouldn't have had to retire due to his back injury. What would have happened had he not been hurt? Everything wouldve been different. No new DX with X Pac and The Outlaws, Maybe a nice lenghthy feud with Austin, but that would eliminate Austin vs Mcmahon which is now legendary. A lot of stars would have never been formed, and worst of all he would still be a hardcore druggie. I hate to say it, as a huge HBK mark, and as my favorite wrestler of all time, HBK;s injury was the best thing that happened to him, as well as the attitude era.

It was best for everyone, and thankfully, he's learned how to step aside since then.

I think he may have ended up in WCW, because I cant see McMahon putting up with his antics when guys like Austin and Rock started catching fire.

I honestly think he may end up gone from the WWE because of his attitude. The stories about his problems with Taker most of all. I don't see him lasting. But it is amazing to think about it because all the what ifs that comes out of it. What if he did end up released. He goes to WCW and how would that have effected the NWO angle and the Monday night wars? So many questions but at the end I agree. Getting hurt was the best thing for him which is sad to say but it ended up for the best for HBK himself.

He had serious drug problems and probably wouldn't have gotten better if he stayed active, heck possible would have died. I believe that his politicking would have been much less effective with Austin and the Rock's rising popularity, especially once it exceeded his own, and adding the Undertaker's problem with him I am sure he would have become either ineffective or hurt the WWF. But once Micheals politics would hurt the WWF's drawing power I am sure Vince would have put a stop to it. I could definitely see HBK crossing over to WCW if he didn't like the way things were going in the WWF, but I am sure he would have main evented with Austin and the Rock, he would just come out on the losing side. If he went to WCW I really don't think that would have even mattered for the Monday Night Wars. Think about it, he definitely would have been in the nWo. He would not have become champion, atleast not a lengthy one. He would probably play second fiddle to Hogan and Nash and been possibly a hair higher than Hall and his replacement when Hall was gone. Although a Micheals in his prime might have got to wrestle Benoit, Booker T, Chris Jericho and who knows, maybe a rematch with Hart. Also a match with Sting would have been a definite. Then again WCW was pretty dumb, he probably would have wrestled Luger, Konan, Stevie Ray and other people I couldn't care less to see him against.

I'm gonna try to be positive and say he could have done well in the WWF still. He takes time off for back surgery after WM, and I imagine would have a natural feud with Austin, this time as a hired gun for McMahon, doing the whole coroprate HBK thing he did a bit when he was commish, but explanding on it. Add in a feud with Triple H at some point for the promo Triple H cut on him the right after WM and he could have had a long run in that era.

I honestly think he could have came back a lot sooner than he did. Maybe 6 months to a year. Four years is a long time and just to see him come back just like that is pretty weird. I'm thinking there was more to it than just a back injury.

They would've told him to drop the belt to Owen and he would've lost his smile again

I'm glad you brought that up, because this is where the difference in how events would have played out starts to really alter things.
I kind of suspect that if HBK would have signed with WCW, Bret wouldn't have stuck around there. It's possible that he may have just decided to call it quits for good at that point. Though he might have gotten the first concussion, he wouldn't have received that mule kick from Goldberg that put him out of wrestling for good.
If Bret would have called it quits if HBK had signed with WCW, what would that have lead to?
