Any theories?

Seemed pretty obvious to me.
The production guys missed the cue to play Kofis music [which was stupid anyway if you ask me, the music bit wasnt needed considering the set was so small this week and Kofi could have just ran out there], which forced Orton to stop his own punt.
Orton knew it and was POed about it, so he shrugged at the camera to say WTF GUYS.

Taking a page out of Shawn Michaels playbook. Only he wasn't berating a fellow wrestler, but showing frustration on a missed cue. I've seen this dozens of times in various Botchamania videos.

Good thing the Kofi aftermath was good enough for this to not be as bad for everyone in the long run.
Right?

Right. That terrible flub was covered by the brawl and hot finish. I certainly think I know which footage is going to get included in the video hype package

Saw the flub, but it wasn't the only one. Hell, Vince has a mic, starts cutting a promo, and they cut to commercial on him. That's the one that shocked me.
Have to say this, even though I'm sure it's been said, that brawl and the finish made Kofi look like a million bucks, and I really hope they can keep the momentum with him and don't have him get lost in the shuffle at the PPV.

Seemed to me he was probably cutting a promo to the live crowd that would have been during the break but they hadn't stopped airing the audio in the background of the hype screens.

Another problem I noticed was on returning from one of the commercials they were a few seconds late in cuing the music.

Anyone else notice Piper checking his notes on his hand.

That was awesome.
I love the entire Kofi/Orton thing, and the little things have roped me in.
Orton turning and shrugging his shoulders is pretty funny.

As soon as that happened I said to myself "well that certainly just ruined the whole segment"... boy was I wrong.

Kofi is, like (IIRC) Batista a follower of the "Hey, I'm not going out there to save someone from a beatdown until you play my music!"-way of interfering.

I watched a little bit of Raw with my friend who hasn't watched wrestling religiously since Eddie's death. I was giving him a crash course of WWE current now and told him about the Kofi-not-really-Jamacian thing and he thought that it was the stupidest thing ever and the guy will be a joke. When the whole "wait for it..., wait for it..." missed punt happened, I felt embarrased for even being a fan of the sport in front of him. I couldn't defend a blatant miscue like that and though I'd never sell him on Kofi... or Orton for that matter. I literally had the same reaction Orton did at the very same time. About 3 minutes and a couple shots later that s*** didn't matter at all

All of those mistakes, both the little ones and the big ones (and having Piper randomly challenge Vince McMahon) gave the show a real WCW Nitro to me. It was still entertaining, but still. WCW.

I noticed it, but I just thought Orton was about to do something else to Piper, not punt him. Then the fake kick that didn't even graze Piper's head made me realize something was up and that Randy was pissed.

The WTF look at the production area was great.

Ya know, I didn't even notice during the show itself but... Yeah. That's awkward.
