I've got a bizarre theory that Cole's shameless product shilling might be viewed as kissing up, and therefore they want to replace him with someone who won't shill nearly as much. Or maybe they are afraid that "VINTAGE" might get over as a catchphrase. As opposed to a meme...

Michael Cole has just been getting worse and worse since Taz left his side, those years ago. Commentators that were very weak a few years ago have since passed him by in terms of growth and being a better announcer. Get rid of the guy, or at least put him elsewhere.
Also, his work on SDvs.Raw 2010 is among the worst voice work I've heard in a wrestling game.

Apparently thats why they worked well together. If the NEWZ stories are true of Lawler not liking commentating with Cole and having no chemistry that may explain things. The face-face dynamics are disastrous when there isn't any chemistry or if one of the announcers doesn't respect one. I'd say let Lawler become heel or become JBL 2.0

I don't know if I believe this. Even though I think Cole's commentary is pretty awful, I can't deny that he is doing a great job at what WWE wants in an announcer. By WWE's own admission a few years ago, their announcers are there not to call the wrestling matches but to put over the storylines and the characters. Cole does a great job of doing that. It's not my cup of tea since I am interested in the actual matches and I do like to know the names of the holds being used, but that's not my decision to make. Joey Styles, is that you?

Honestly, I think Matt Striker is more guilty of this than anyone, though I really like his commentary.
By the way, could you hear the tension in the commentary between Striker and Cole? They did not mesh whatsoever, they have such different styles and Cole seemed to no-sell most of Striker's comments.

Cole has been around for 12 years or so and he has gotten more and more annoying. Hes worse that Todd Pettingail, an absolute embrassment who spews WWE taglines ad naseam to the point of me just wanting to hate whatever it is hes shilling. He calls matches Vince McMahon style where he telegraphs whether or not the match is going to end when a guy goes for a pinfall killing the heat of the moment. He destroys the show and the product suffers DIRECTLY from his terrible commentary.
I will enjoy WWE more simply by him not being on the programing.

Cole is so awful it is almost funny and I have laughed at some of the unintentional hilarious things he has said. Listening to Lawler however is depressing when you consider how far he has fallen. He was great in the mid nineties as a heel, in fact I would take his late nineties tweener style of commentating where he would like some heels and faces over the 100% babyface we have now.

They should book an angle where Sheamus' big boot killed Lawler.. they have a mock funeral and Sheamus throws Cole into the grave with Lawler and gets in a backhoe and fills the grave in. Next week Undertaker comes out and accuses Seamus of being an illegal alien and taking away American jobs by undertaking. This fued leads to Mania

Well, at least he is trying to entertain SOMEONE. I was starting to doubt his desire to do so.

When McMahon came out yesterday he could have said something epic or important like J.R would have done, but he says "your watching the longest running....."
God I hate Michael Cole

Oh come on. He does not deserve that.
Cole may not be the best to many of the people on this forum but he's probably the best they've got in JR's absence, and he's been with the company for over a decade. To me he's synonymous with Smackdown! now and he deserves a job at WWE in some capacity for what he's contributed.
He puts over every little stupid angle WWE has running, no matter what. That's all you can ask for from an announcer.
Don't go, Michael!
