Man, I HATED this game. My dad knew that I was into SF2, and picked it up for me. It had nothing to do with SF and was way too hard. I never got past the third stage.

Wow. He didn't actually trash this game, or at least as bad as others before. It was more like his Cinemassacre movie reviews than AVGN. I'm not hating it, just noticing the differences from the style.
Also nice to see the original SF and the movie game.

I lost it at: "At least you get to play as classic characters Ryu, George Washington, and Abe Lincoln." Nice. ;D

He's right, though: If you ironed some of the issues out, it would be a classic. Hell, maybe if they hadn't screwed it up by labeling it as a game it most certainly wasn't, and if they had been a bit less heartless or had tighter controls, then maybe it'd of been another Capcom classic series. Maybe there would of been more of them, even.

I liked this game, hard as it was, and for as little as it had to do with the franchise.

I got this for my birthday as a kid and loved it. Yeah, its hard, but I loved Capcom titles on the NES, and this was no different. I still own it, in fact.

The arcade version of the original Street Fighter can be found on Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 for PS2. I don't know if it's any different from the Turbo Graphix 16 version. The controls are pretty shitty and it's kind of tame compared to the rest of the series. But at least I can say I have it. Or something.

The Turbografx version of Street Fighter (Fighting Street, whatever) is also available for the Wii Virtual Console.

The controls are pretty s***ty and it's kind of tame compared to the rest of the series. But at least I can say I have it. Or something. That's because the buttons in the arcade were pressured, so the harder you pushed, the more powerful your move would be. When the Original Street Fighter, was ported to home consoles, it lost it's major attraction.

The pizza place a few blocks from my house has the actual cabinet. I don't know if it's playable or not but it's there.

I think I liked the Nerd's asides about Fighting Street and Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game more than the 2010 review. I really hope that we see more stuff from the Saturn and the TG-16.
Loved the opening too.

I played an arcade Street Fighter, which I assumed was the first one a very long time ago. Thing is, it was a side scroller not unlike this game.

This is a classic AVGN because it not just was a critique of a game, but it also showed off his amazing skills at playing these 8 bit treasures. He beats the hardest games not only out of his love of the console, but also his desire to legitimately critique all aspects of the game. He might be vulgar, but this display is one of the many reasons he will always keep me checking out his reviews.

"... but once you do it man, you're on top of the f***ing World." Hilarious, I also know exactly what he's talking about when you play so long you actually get worse at it for awhile before getting better again.

To be honest, I thought that voice in Fighting Street (by the way, UGH!!!!) sounded more like Sylvester Stallone than an adult on Peanuts.

Speaking as someone who has played the arcade version once on an original cabinet with the pressurized buttons and once again on a compilation cabinet (where it reverted the controls to SF2 style, having its own buttons for the stronger punches and kicks)...it sucks just as badly as his review shows it to be. In fact the TG-16 one is pretty damn close to being arcade perfect and has WAY better music. And yes, the voice is the same in the arcade one too.
