About four or five years ago, I was dating a girl named Meg. We had been together several months, and had moved into a townhouse of our own in the fall. When Valentine's Day rolled around, I had a brilliant idea. I would go to the store, buy up some pink, red, and white construction paper, cut them into little heart shapes, write "I love you..." on one side, and on the other I would write a reason why. I made 100 of them (very tedious work when you only have a crappy pair of scissors) and Scotch taped them up on the walls of our place while she was sleeping. When she woke up and came out to the living room, she saw them, cried (the good kind of cry) and read all of them. I thought it was awesome.
There was a problem, though, that she didn't know about: two years prior, I had dated a chick who originally was my best friend and then became my girlfriend (which was a bad idea, but I digress) and she had done the same thing for me, "just for the hell of it." I thought the idea was sweet, so I stole it.
So, what's the problem now? Well ... I want to do it again, for my wife. But, I want to be more creative and less repetitive. I don't know if I ever told her about it, and if I did I certainly don't want to do it because she'll think it's a cop-out.
So I ask you - guys, girls, eunuchs, hermaphrodites, EVERYONE - should I just go with my original idea, or should I try to come up with something else? We're not really big Valentine's Day people, and we're pretty poor, so I don't want to spend an arm and a leg; construction paper, a Sharpie, and some Scotch tape should be pretty inexpensive. But is it lame to do something like this for multiple significant others? I mean, is it any different from giving flowers and candy to one girlfriend, eventually breaking up, and then doing it again in a year or two for another girlfriend?
If you have any better ideas, please share. "Haters" need not reply.
